DAVIES HIGH SCHOOL
EAGLES REPORT - OCTOBER 2023
Honor – Integrity – Pursuit of Excellence
GREETINGS, EAGLES!
It's October already, which is hard to believe! I wanted to take a moment to update you on some important information. We've implemented a new automated attendance notification system starting October 2nd. This system will promptly notify you via text and email if your student is absent and you haven't notified our attendance office. This will enable faster communication regarding your students’ attendance, and we appreciate your patience as we transition to this new system.
- Parent-teacher conferences will be held October 4th and October 9th in the main gym from 4:15 pm - 8:15 pm.
- Looking ahead, I want to emphasize the significance of Eagle Hour. With the upcoming month, it can be a challenge for students to maintain focus and stay on track with their studies. Eagle Hour, held from Monday to Thursday between 8:05 am and 8:40 am, provides dedicated time for students to address their individual academic needs. Students can drop by to check in with their teachers, or teachers may request the student's presence. For those relying on the bus, there's an early service available to ensure they can access Eagle Hour. If you're unsure about the early bus schedule, please search by address here. You can click this link to find out when your student's teachers are available.
- A quick note: there will be no school on October 19th and 20th for fall break.
If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out. The partnership between the school and the parents/guardians of our students directly impacts the success of each individual student. Thank you for your ongoing support of Davies High School.
Sincerely,
Dale Miller

Early Out Day Expectations
Fargo Public Schools will release students two hours early from school on four days this school year to support the professional development of teachers. The early release days are October 18, December 22, February 16, and April 19.
The early release days allow teachers to gather in an extended Professional Learning Community (PLC) to focus on the students they serve this school year. During these early release days, teachers will analyze data and plan lessons to support students who have yet to grasp current standards and challenge students who have.
The district is committed to providing high-quality education for all students and believes investing in teacher professional development is critical to achieving this goal. By providing teachers with dedicated time to collaborate and learn from one another, Fargo Public Schools is taking an important step toward improving student learning outcomes.
FPS understands that early release days may cause some inconvenience for parents and guardians. However, this is an important step towards improving our teaching practices and benefiting our students' learning outcomes.
Parents are encouraged to contact their school for more information about the early release days and how they will affect their child's schedule. Students will have the opportunity for both breakfast and lunch on the early release days.
NURSES CORNER - SLEEP REQUIREMENTS
A good night’s sleep is linked with better health, including improved attention, behavior, learning, memory, the ability to control emotions, quality of life and mental and physical health. Children from 3 to 5 years need approximately 10 to 13 hours of sleep a day, while children 6 to 12 need 9 to 12 hours daily, children 13 to 18 years need 8 to 10 hours a day and an adult needs 7 or more hours a day.
Suggestions for helping your child get enough sleep include.
- Be consistent- set a bedtime hour and stick to it, even on weekends.
- Get some exercise. Being physically active during the day can help you fall asleep more easily at night.
- Remove electronic devices such as TV’s, computers, and smart phones, from the bedroom.
- Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, relaxing and at a comfortable temperature.
- Avoid large meals and caffeine before bedtime.
If you have questions or comments, please contact your school nurse or other health care provider.
