"Graduated Status" for Seniors
Please note the information below regarding senior academic requirements for the remainder of the year:
- Seniors who are on track to graduate and in good standing as of the third nine weeks reporting period will be considered “as meeting the graduation requirements” for the State of Alabama.
- No NEW graded work will be assigned. (Exception: Dual Enrollment and ACCESS students should complete all assigned work)
- Seniors taking AP classes are expected to continue to participate in Classroom to Cloud AP instruction to prepare for the upcoming AP tests, however no new grades will be posted since the ALSDE has declared ALL seniors as "graduated".
- Seniors who are not in good standing (failing or missing work) will complete make up work, take tests they missed, etc.
- Seniors who are failing will also be provided opportunities for grade recovery on previous work and tests.
- Seniors who desire additional learning opportunities will certainly be provided those for enrichment purposes, but grades will not be entered for this optional work.
- There will be no final exams
- There will be no state civics exam required this year
A Letter to The Class of 2020 from Senior Counselor, Leta McGehee
Class of 2020:
I have missed you! We are definitely living through an unprecedented time and experiencing history in the making, and this international pandemic has created many uncertainties and questions about life as a senior for all of us. I wish I had all the answers.
I understand you are upset and I know it is difficult for you to make plans when we are in this state of emergency. I know you are disappointed about prom, graduation, and I know many of you were not able to enjoy spring break as planned.
I want you to be encouraged. After all, we ARE the Class of 2020 and we will get through this. I have always told you that this class is exceptional. You are the gifted and talented leaders of the future. I know one thing IS certain during this time. YOU are the future for our nation. YOU will become the determined law makers, diligent community servants, honorable military leaders, strategic labor leaders, extraordinary builders, expert engineers, creative automotive designers and dedicated medical minds. YOU!
Whatever your personal plans may be, yes, those important plans are on hold for now, but in time, you will be able to write your new chapters of life. You will be awarded a diploma from Hewitt-Trussville High School and we will all celebrate your success. I am proud of each one of you.
Dr. Neill and Mr. Salem will let us know about prom and graduation as soon as restrictions for gathering are lifted by the Governor and the Jefferson County Department of Health. Our administrators understand these are important milestones for you in your senior year, so hopefully, we will know something soon. I know it is hard to be patient.
As you know, our class lost a classmate last week. This tragedy has been heart-breaking and devastating to me. Families are grieving. If you would like to send a sympathy note or card I am providing the address. I know your encouragement and condolences will mean so much.
Parkerson family: 273 Glen Cross Drive, Trussville, AL 35173.
Please take the time to read over the details of graduation requirements. If you are a senior in good standing, CONGRATULATIONS! If you have questions, please email your teachers. They will be able to work with you and communicate any questions you may have about finishing work to be considered as good standing. Mrs. Young and I will be able to help you also.
I have missed our daily conversations and your beautiful smiles. I have missed you dropping by to get a snack but most of all, I have missed hearing your laughter.
I love you dearly,
Ms. McGehee
