Mrs. Willis

Week 4

Can you believe we have been in a school an entire month?! Time is flying by in our classroom and I sometimes wonder if there are going to be enough hours in the day to get everything done. I'm telling ya, our paras are an HUGE asset to our class. They are constantly working so hard and finding new ways to connect and build rapport!

I was walking from my desk to our bookshelf yesterday and this play lizard caught my eye. It was one of those moments that made me stop and smile at the fact that your boys are always up to something, leaving me funny little notes or drawings or even a lizard hanging out on a bouncy ball :)

Creativity!

This is one approach we take when teaching addition and subtraction. Your child breaks down the equation into separate components (beads in each container) then adds the beans together to get the total amount. This teaches them that there is meaning behind numbers, that 5 isn't just "5", it is actually 5 different items. We then put these together and come up with our equation!

I will be showing you different approaches we use for your child during your conference time!

Our goal is to get it to $100/person!!

September 19th and 20th

I will be out Monday and Tuesday September 19th and 20th to attend a Verbal Behavior Conference by the man himself, Mark Sundberg. Mark Sundberg created the VBMAPP, a Verbal Behavior Assessment that many of your students have had. It tells us where they are in terms of communication and gives us a great measure on where to start teaching. I am very excited for this opportunity!

Have trust that I have a VERY reputable sub that I personally know and chose to cover my position. I've know her for 2 years and she subbed here at Paloma majority of the year last year.

Mrs. Hollis and Ms. Vazquez will both be here and are more than ready and capable to fill in any holes that may arise :)

I will have constant communication with all 3 of these ladies throughout the school day Monday and Tuesday!
