Read-A-Thon is Here: 10/16 - 10/30!
Dear Parents,
The Dyer Read-A-Thon is here! Let's get ready to read!
There are three parts to our Read-A-Thon: Reading, tracking your minutes on your Read-A-Thon Adventure Page, and raising money for our awesome school! All money raised will go toward additional technology in the classroom and for more campus beautification projects, like the mural in our media center!
Reading:
Students can begin reading Friday, October 16th at 8:30am through Friday, October 30th. At 11:59pm. All time spent reading counts (in school and at home). ALL READING COUNTS! Students can read independently, with a friend, to a sibling, listen to a parent/sibling read, host a reading playdate, or even Skype with a relative! Every kind of reading is Read-A-Thon reading!
Tracking Minutes:
Parents, we need you to help your child track their reading minutes outside of school. Tracking minutes is a quick and easy process and can all be done online through your child's Read-A-Thon Adventure page. Parents, we will need your help with activating your child’s Read-A-Thon page. Teachers will send home a flyer with instructions on how to log into the website with your child's secret code. Lost your flyer? No worries, just email your teacher and he/she can help get you that information.
Sponsors:
Students are encouraged to ask family members and friends for their support by sponsoring their participation in our Read-A-Thon. Invitations can be sent through your child's online Read-A-Thon Adventure page through a variety of tools (Facebook, text, email, Twitter, printables, etc.). Sponsors will not make pledges but rather a flat donation.
Prizes and Awards:
While we all know that reading is a reward in and of itself, we also know that it's a ton of fun to participate in a little friendly competition and earn prizes! There are several different ways to earn prizes, see the back of this flyer for more info.

Early Release - Wed. 10/21 & Thu. 10/22!
Dear Parents,
Dyer students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, October 21st and Thursday, October 22nd. All instruction for digital students will end at 12:15 on these two days. Please be sure to note these important schedule changes.
We are offering both an in person format as well as a digital format for this year’s conferences. Wednesday, October 21st will be our day for in person conferences. Thursday, October 22nd will be our day for our virtual conferences. The purpose of a parent-teacher conference is to discuss student achievement and progress. Each parent-teacher conference will last for a period of fifteen minutes to allow for cleaning in between appointments. Both parents are urged to attend. Please be prompt as these conferences are scheduled consecutively. If a situation arises and you are unable to attend your scheduled conference, please notify the teacher so the conference can be rescheduled.
To schedule your conferences this year, simply go to our school’s conference site https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Dyer_Elementary_School_3 and click on your teacher’s name. The schedule will open on Friday, October 2nd at 4:00pm. There you will be able to see your teachers’ schedules and sign up for a time that best suits you. The ability to sign up for a conference online will close on Friday, October 16th at 3:00pm. Please contact your child’s teacher directly to sign up after the close of online scheduling.
*Please plan to have your own translator for conferences as we will not be able to provide one. Thank you!
Por favor, planee tener su propio traductor para conferencias, ya que no podremos proporcionar uno. ¡Gracias!
We look forward to seeing you during conference week.
Sincerely,
Sally Armstrong
Assistant Principal

Names are $5.00 to add to your shirt. You can purchase children and adult shirts on MyPayments Plus until October 16th.
Dyer PTO Needs You!
This year has presented us with many new challenges but we remain committed to supporting all of our Bears whether they be digital or in-person learners. While most of our in-person events have been cancelled, we are working hard to find ways to keep all of our students connected. And of course, we are always looking for opportunities to work alongside our amazing teachers, and provide financial support to the school.
Parents, in order for our PTO to be successful in reaching these goals, WE NEED YOU! If you have it on your heart to help by donating your time and/or talents, please let us know by completing this electronic form! We can tailor volunteer opportunities to play to your strengths and work with your schedule. Plus, we have a lot of FUN, even from a distance!
PAWSitively Exciting News!
You may be wondering what on earth is the PAWS program? Our PAWS program is actually part of a larger framework called PBIS, Positive Behavior Interventions & Support. The goal of PBIS is to teach our students behavior expectations. Over the next few weeks, your students will learn about the behavior expectations in each area of the in-person and digital learning environments. We teach these behaviors using the acronym PAWS:
- Personal Best
- Act Responsibly
- Work & Play Safely
- Show Respect
Students are acknowledged and praised for exhibiting desired behaviors. These acknowledgements are issued in the form of points. Students can then use their points to purchase prizes, enter raffles, and attend events! This point economy is all managed via our PBIS Rewards App! In addition to managing our PAWS rewards, the PBIS Rewards app can be used by teachers to message parents, send pictures of students, and so much more! Parents, you can use the PBIS Rewards Parent app to message teachers, check your students' point balances, and see what rewards they have redeemed their points for! Instructions for downloading the PBIS Rewards Parent App were emailed to parents on Wednesday, 9/16. Please be sure to take a few moments to set up this app as it is an invaluable communication tool!
Dyer Parent Shout Outs!
Thank you to everyone that took the time to submit a Dyer Parent Shout Out form last week! We had such a great response, that we have decided to keep it going! If there is a Dyer staff member that you would like to recognize, send them a Shout Out! Please fill out this form to acknowledge and individual or group. Mr. DiFilippo will share your shout out at our weekly faculty meeting. Don't know the name of who you want to acknowledge? That's okay, each question is set up for a short answer response, instead of typing their name, you can type a description, (i.e. ladies that work in car- rider line each morning).

Flu Clinic at Mountain View High School - Saturday 10/17!
HNH Immunizations (Health Heroes) has partnered with Gwinnett County Public Schools to offer flu vaccinations to students who are attending school in-person. The flu clinic for in-person students attending any school in our cluster will be offered on Saturday, 10/17 at MVHS. Health Heroes flu vaccination clinics are completely voluntary but are only offered at this time to students who are attending in-person whose parents have provided written consent.
Why get a flu vaccine?
The best way to minimize or avoid the spread of flu is to get an annual flu vaccination. Each year the vaccine protects against new strains. Therefore, the vaccine should be administered annually. These vaccinations are recommended to help keep students healthy and cut down on absenteeism.
Who is HNH Immunizations, Inc.?
At HNH Immunizations, Inc., we specialize in on-site vaccination clinics.
Will there be a cost for the flu shot?
HNH Immunizations, Inc., provides vaccines at NO COST to students. We bill both Medicaid and private insurance and will not require families to pay any out-of-pocket expenses or deductibles. However, we will be unable to provide this service to families with Kaiser coverage. Qualifying uninsured students can be given the vaccine, free of charge.
What type vaccines will be given?
IIV-4 influenza injections will be available to students attending in-person who do not have any medical reasons that prevent vaccination. All vaccines given are preservative-free, mercury-free, Thimerosal-free and administered by state-licensed nurses.
What do you need to do to participate?
You can schedule your child to receive a vaccine at MVHS by signing up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49A8AB23A0FDCF8-gcps
You must COMPLETE and sign the consent form and bring it with you in order for your child to receive the vaccination.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the Office of Health and Social Services at Gwinnett County Public Schools at 678-301-7270. You also can find more information at www.healthherousa.com.
Thank you!
