Nervous system
The main structures include:
Brain
Spinal Cord
Brain Stem
Central Nervous System
Peripheral Nervous System
Nerves
Nervous system levels of organization
Astrocytes
The astrocytes are star shaped cells that are found in the brain. This cell is specifically located in the brains capillaries. and their primary function is to act as a blood-brain barrier that stops some substances from entering the brain.
Astrocytes tissue
Astrocytes tissues primary function is to act as a blood-brain barrier that stops some substances from entering the brain.
Brain - Organ
The brain is the most important organ of the body as it controls all bodily functions. It is important to the nervous system because it is the place that sends and receives messages and telling the body how to respond.
Nervous System
Collects information and respond to it by sending electrical messages. The information may come from inside or outside the body.
Organism
The nervous system is important to an organism because it sends message which allows the body to complete normal body functions.
Homeostasis
To maintain homeostasis in the nervous system the brain has sensors which determine when things are not normal in the body. When this happens the brain then sends signals back out to cause reactions which will bring body levels back to normal. If homeostasis breaks the nervous system may not be able to control bodily functions resulting in extreme body temperatures, a change in eating habits, and dehydration.
Interactions with other Body Systems
Skeletal System
The nervous system works in conjunction with other body systems to help maintain homeostasis. For example, the skeletal system helps project the nervous system as the skull protects the brain and the vertebrae protects the spinal cord. The brain and spinal cord are vital in order for the body to function properly.
Cardiovascular System
The nervous system works with the cardiovascular system to deliver oxygen, hormones, nutrients and white blood cells around the body by pumping blood, and it removes waste products which is very helpful when the brain sends messages to throughout the body. The heart is keep beating by electrical impulses from the nervous system.
Endocrine System
The nervous system works with the endocrine system to signal the release of hormones. The hormones provide feedback to the brain to affect many natural processes that aid in the development of systems such as the reproductive system. Also the hypothalamus, which is located in the brain, controls the pituitary gland and other endocrine glands.
The Central Nervous System
