Lead Learner Highlights
It's Saturday, and two classrooms were alive with students catching up on work and two administrators doing the same. We are headed into the last five days before break, and we still have lots of learning happening over this week. We will kick off the week with our 8th Grade concert. Please be sure to support your child and the PTO with a musical note (information below). The PTO will have spirit wear and cocoa and cookies for after the concert.
Our teams are wrapping up shopping for each of our adopted families, and I really want to thank you for making 10 families holiday special. I want to especially thank so many of you for contributing to our 12 Days of Surprises for our staff. Your generosity of time and resources is overwhelming, and the staff feels honored.
As we prepare to end this year and welcome the next, I want to say thank you for the privilege of being the Lead Learner at KP. It is an honor to work with such a great staff, inspiring students and a committed family community. We'll see you next year, and I am happy to report that Mr. Kotler will be back as well.
Student Absences
Winter is here!
As we are heading into the winter months, it's a good time to remember to take extra care in the mornings and afternoons dropping off/picking up kids from KP and neighborhoods. Snowbanks limit visibility and often constrict roads and walkways. Please remember to leave a little extra time to make sure that all of our students are safe.
In the event of an early closing, it is best for your child(ren) to have a safe and secure place to go. Review the plan you have put in place that identifies where your child needs to go if school closes early. Take the time to write this plan in your child's agenda for a quick and easy reference.
Due to the cold, our diesel buses will be idling more often in the bus loops. This is necessary to keep them running and is under strict guidelines with the transportation and busing company. If you are picking your child up from school during the winter months, we encourage you to limit vehicle idling on school property to help the environment.

"Public Act 16-189
We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.
In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
