News From The View

Skyview Upper Elementary School

From Mrs. Berical

Dear Families,

The warm weather has been a treat this week and I certainly hope your child has been able to take advantage of it and get outside to play! Some of our physical education classes have been able to get outdoors this week and we also had a warmer fire drill this week than we typically do in February!

Skyview has a lost and found in the main lobby that has MANY items! Items include winter hands, gloves, coats, jackets, water bottles and lunch boxes. Please encourage your child to stop by the lost and found to ensure that nothing belongs to them. All items will be donated by the end of the school year if they are not claimed.

The staff at Skyview wishes all students a wonderful 5 days off from school! We hope that you find time to relax as a family and get outside to play in any warm weather we may have! Stay safe and we will see you on Wednesday!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Berical

Math Questions- How You Can Help At Home!

We recognize that families want to support their child academically and feel connected to their learning. Each week, we will include a 5th and 6th grade math word problem that you can work on with your child. Also included will be the list of questions that you can ask your child that will help guide their thinking as they solve the problem. We encourage you to take advantage of completing these word problems with your child so that you can help support them with their learning at home!

Questions to Ask Your Child

  • What do you know about the problem?

  • What question is being asked?

  • What information has been given to you?

  • What operation will you use to solve the problem? How do you know?

  • Will your answer be bigger or smaller than the numbers in the problem?

  • Does your response answer the question?

Band and Orchestra Families

Dear Families of Band & Orchestra,

As part of the music department, specific expectations have been set for the students so that when they come together as a full band they are able to bring their best self and be a contributing member to the band and or orchestra. This means that students are expected to practice each week and be responsible for their instrument at home and at school. Students who are not practicing at home are negatively impacting the ability to for the full band and orchestra to perform to their full capacity. You can help your child by setting a specific time for them to practice each week along with a timer that they can set for a specific amount of time.

Students should practice at a minimum of three times a week for at least 15 minutes.

I greatly appreciate your help in encouraging your child to practice their instrument!
