Schoolwide News
SCHOOL SAFETY - Car Rider Reminders
Reminder: When a student is a car rider, a FAST PASS is required in your vehicle in order to pick up the student. There will be no exceptions. In the event someone attempts a pick up without a FAST PASS, they will be asked to go to the front office to show ID before the chlid is released. If you need a new FAST PASS, please contact us for assistance.
At dismissal, the first car will be scanned at 3:35 and the last car will be scanned at 3:55. Thank you for your cooperation.
Now that the winter weather is kicking in - don't forget that if you are changing the way you will pick up your child, you must call the front office before 2:30PM to make changes. This way, we can make sure your child is in the place you will be for pick up.
School Safety - FCPS Firearm Possession Policy
"It is unlawful for students to possess or use any weapon on school property. Students who have or use a weapon on school property will be suspended from school, and the police will be notified of the incident. A weapon is any object designed to harm another physically or an object which is used in a way that can physically harm another. This school is committed to providing each of you with a safe environment, and we will do all we can to carry out that responsibility including, if necessary, conducting searches of student lockers.”
Attendance Matters
Strive for 5 or less absences per year! Students are chronically absent when they miss 17.5 days or more of school regardless of reason (excused or unexcused). Consistent attendance equals meaningful education - tutoring and make up work simply can't replace this. Our school improvement goal is to reduce chronic absenteeism by 10% and our schoolwide goal for January is 94% or higher. Check back next month to see how we did.
This month's attendance incentive: LOVE FOR LEARNING! The top 3 classes with the highest attendance from January 8 - Feb 12th will receive cupcakes at our Love For Learning/Valentine's Parties on February 14th. More information on these parties will be coming soon from your child's grade level team.
We know cold weather is coming so if your child needs a coat, hat, or gloves please contact Teresa Kidd or Veronica Bonilla (240) 236-3891. Cold weather is not an excuse to miss school.
Is your family going out of the country for an extended trip? Please contact Emily Koogle emily.koogle@fcps.org to discuss educational options before you leave.
Rooted in Wellness
Sleep is SO important! Children and adults who get adequate, regular sleep not only focus and learn better, but stay healthier in general. Consistent sleep also leads to better behavior and mental well being. Having trouble getting your child to sleep? Talk with your doctor or a member of our CARES team on how you can establish bedtime routines that promote a good night's rest.
