Wednesday's Words
June 2, 2021
Dear Norfolk Families,
It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the 2020/2021 school year with less than 10 days left of school. Our schools are busy preparing for end of year celebrations, field days, finalizing projects, administering end of year assessments and preparing our students for transitioning to the next grade level. What makes this time of year so special is the opportunity to reflect and celebrate all that we have accomplished this past year. We have so much to be thankful for, especially now that COVID-19 cases continue to decline and we are able to end the school year together.
Summer Reading and Math:
During the fun summer months children tend to forget some of the academic skills learned during the school year. Research shows that a student can lose an average of 1.5 months of grade-level equivalency in reading and math skills during prolonged breaks. The most effective way to ensure that students retain the skills learned is to offer numerous and consistent opportunities throughout the summer for students to practice specific skills in these two content areas. Therefore, our Math and Literacy Specialists in partnership with our school Librarians are planning fun ways for your child to engage with reading and math this summer. Before the end of the school year, you will be receiving communication from the schools detailing our Summer Math and Reading plan. We hope to see high participation from our students in the fall.
Wishing you a wonderful end of the school year and a relaxing summer break!
Sincerely,
Victoria Saldana,
Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
Dr. Ingrid Allardi,
Superintendent
Free Grab and Go Meals for Children 18 and Under
The importance of healthy meals for children does not go away in the summer. Food access may be compromised at times, especially due to pandemic impacts on families. Norfolk Director of Food Services and her staff have continued to work hard to provide school meals to students throughout this year. The four districts are pleased to partner with the Hockomock YMCA again this summer to provide free grab & go meals for children, ages 18 and under, beginning June 21. Breakfast and lunch for multiple days will be provided on Mondays and Thursdays, 11-12:30, at a regional site at King Philip High School. For more information, please click on the links below.
Your child's electronic report card will be available in your iParent/iPass account on the last day of school.
