Roosevelt Reader

PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Parents,
On Friday, March 3, Roosevelt School will promote reading throughout the school. At 12:45pm after lunch/recess the entire school will drop everything to read independently for ten minutes. In addition, teachers and staff will sign up to read to a different classroom during the day. Finally, we are inviting students to dress up as their favorite book character. It will be an exciting day, and we look forward to sharing the joy of reading with each other.
In addition to our focus on reading, this spring there are several opportunities for families and students to practice one of our core school values, "Bee Caring". The Roosevelt Student Council is sponsoring a Hearts of Gold campaign to benefit child cancer research. Further, Roosevelt is participating in the St. Baldrick's fundraiser to benefit cancer research as well. The following links are provided for you to explore as a family. Participation is optional.

Finally, the Park RIdge Newcomers Association is sponsoring a Labor of Love recipient is Benny Martinez, a 12 year old, who needs our help. The association is selling yard signs to spread the love for Benny all over town. Each yard sign is available for minimum $10 donation on our website. All proceeds raised will go directly to Benny's family.
Their website has a video about Benny you can share put together by Mr Taglia, a Lincoln teacher http://www.parkridgenewcomersclub.org/
Have a wonderful day!

NEWS BULLETIN
The best place to start your child’s District 64 education….is right here in District 64.
Jefferson School is currently accepting registration for 3 and 4 year olds for the 2017-18 school year. The District 64 preschool program welcomes children of all abilities, as the classrooms are designed to educate children with a variety of abilities, interests, and needs within a play based preschool environment. The teachers are highly qualified and certified through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in early childhood, special education and teaching English Language Learners. In addition to the preschool teachers, the classrooms are supported by a speech pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and social worker. Therefore, a low student to teacher ratio (1:5) is maintained with class sizes as low as 15 students.
The curriculum, Creative Curriculum, is a research-based and developmentally appropriate curriculum that is aligned to the Illinois Early Learning and Development (IELDS) and Common Core Standards. The program focuses on the four domain areas of development: cognitive, language, physical, and social/emotional so students are well prepared for kindergarten in District 64. For additional information about the program visit the Jefferson website. If you would like a tour of the program contact the Jefferson principal, Lisa Halverson, at 847-318-4249.

Traffic Safety Reminders!
Remain with your car when parked on Fairview or Prospect Avenue. This will help with the flow of traffic.
Students need to be mindful when walking to and from school. Please remind your child walk with a buddy, to use the crosswalks, and to be alert for cars and other safety hazards when traveling to school.
