WBMS Friday Notes

Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
This week I met with randomly selected students in each grade level to hear their points of view on: What’s working at our school, Where they, their friends, or our school is getting stuck, and What we might do differently this semester to improve our learning community. These student meeting were truly the highlight of my week, and their candid and specific insights will help us make decisions to continuously improve our practices here at WBMS. They had so many positive comments about our staff and our school and some really great tweaks to make our learning community even better. I will host these meetings each month with different students and am already eagerly awaiting February’s sessions.
We look forward to welcoming our F2F students back in the building next Tuesday and continuing to engage with our Remote Learners. Enjoy the long weekend with your families and stay well!

WBMS Jr. Beta Wins BIG!
Typically, National Beta State Conventions and Leadership Summits bring together students from across the state to compete in a variety of competitions ranging from academic and STEM-based to visual and performing arts. This year, the in-person competitions and summits were switched to virtual competitions due to health and safety concerns stemming from the COVID-19. Our members worked hard, taking online tests , scheduling meeting with their peers, and preparing competition submissions for their virtual competitions.
We are proud to announce that their victories at the state level provide them the opportunity to compete at the national level. National Convention will be held at the Swan and Dolphin Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida during Summer 2021.
With more than 500,000 active members and 8,750 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. National Junior Beta includes grades 4-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12. Visit betaclub.org for more information.

Leadership Summit Winners
Winners and National Qualifiers- Lead Outside the Box
"Hello everyone, I am Sarah! We participated in lead outside the box where we had to create a virtual survival guide for middle schoolers. We decided to design a mock app with many different features. We accomplished this by giving everyone tasks. I designed the app, Chloe designed the in-app game, Maya wrote a parent info section, Nidhi did a staff interview, Shreyosee gave me the information to put in the app, Sripad, me, and a few others presented, we all contributed to making a PowerPoint, and lastly, I edited our video! This was a really fun competition to be in and we hope can all go to nationals in Orlando, Florida!
FCA
FCA will begin in October with the last Friday of the month, October 30th. We will do in person and virtual for those who are at home. Our leaders will be reaching out to the community to look for new members and new leaders to help them out. They have always done an excellent job! We will continue to add guest speakers as we are allowed to through county policy. This group is open to any one seeking fellowship and friendship!
