This could be used as a guide for introducing high frequency words in Spanish. Some of the suggested activities come from Cunningham and Allington (2009). Consider, however, differences between English and Spanish. It is recommended early Spanish readers begin with segmenting phonemes to form syllables. Examples:
/m/ /a/ = ma
/s/ /a/ = sa
Then, stretch learning by segmenting words. Example:
/p/ /a/ /p/ /a/ = papa
