Eastwood High School

Principal's Update #32 - May 6, 2016

Dear Parents & Community Members

As we have turned the calendar pages over to the month of May, we've started to turn our sights toward the many final year-end activities that will be occurring. Music concerts, athletic events, award recognition programs, and final exams/assessments will all culminate with the Graduation ceremony for the Class of 2016 to be held on Sunday, June 5th.

This is a wonderful time of the year where we can celebrate all of our successes and accomplishments, but it is also a time to continue our efforts to make every effort to attain the high standards of excellence that we are all accustomed to. With only a few short weeks remaining, we look forward to celebrating everyone's achievement while continuing to support all of the academic goals that we'be addressed since the opening days of the school year in August. As always, we appreciate all of the support from families and community members as we address both of these areas.

We look forward to seeing everyone in the coming weeks at many of our upcoming events.

Go Eagles!!!

Textbook Adoption

Eastwood High School has been in the process of evaluating textbooks with an online component to replace some of our current, and outdated, materials, as we move forward with future school years. After an extensive review, textbooks and related materials in the the courses of Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and World History have been finalized. These resources will be made available for public review and placed in the Eastwood HS Media Center from May 9th - May 13th. If you would like to preview these new resources, please contact Mrs. Eaton (Eastwood HS Secretary) to schedule a time to come and preview these materials. The textbook adoptions will allow our students to access online versions of the textbooks as well as access a countless number of online resources and assessments to assist our teachers in meeting the needs of all students.

Please, stop in and see all of the wonderful projects created by students from the elementary, middle, and high school levels. We appreciate all of their efforts as well as the efforts of their classroom teachers (Mrs. Moorman - High School, Mrs. Tong - Middle School, & Mrs. Gullufsen - Elementary). We look forward to seeing everyone at this annual event.

Environmental Science News

The Environmental Science classes have been working throughout the school year by reminding us all to support the concept of recycling. As of May 3rd, the students have collected 67 30-gallon bags of recyclable plastics and 12 30-gallon bags of recyclable aluminum from the high school building. Materials are taken to the recycling center that that supports our band program and it also serves as a significant reduction in building waste.

In addition, on April 30th, Cody Hendricks and Cody Kinor-Chapman were student tour guides for the Black Swamp Conservancy nature walk in Bell Woods. The students and Mr. Madaras (Environmental Science teacher) represented Eastwood and helped to provide information to the visitors on their hike through the woods and swamp.

We appreciated the collective efforts of the Environmental Science classes and Mr. Madaras on each of their projects.
