Our focus this year...Following Christ

Welcome to 6th grade Religious Education. I am very much looking forward to our journey together as we learn and grow in our Catholic Faith. Our focus this year is Following Christ (book title). We will be learning about God's blueprint for a life of love through the law of God, especially in the Ten Commandments, and the presence of Jesus in the Holy Mass.

Our Focus in Class...

Come prepared each week by reading the chapter(s). May I suggest you find 15 minutes each week, perhaps on Sunday (Keep Holy the Sabbath) to read and reflect on the readings. In class we will then be able to have more time for discussion, videos and activities including games and projects.

About Me...

I LOVE to learn and I LOVE to teach. I am curious and am always wanting to learn more. I guess you can say that's one of my gifts from God's :-) I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, nurse (educator), and teacher by nature! I also enjoy family time with my husband and daughter, Issabella and our two little dogs, Brady and Rosa!

Each Week in Class...

We will also focus on the importance of daily prayer in our lives, learn more about the saints, practice finding scripture passages in the bible and share how we can live out our "Call to Joy" which is the "theme" for RE this year. Father Parker has shared some thoughts with us on how to live out our "Call to Joy" daily which I will share with you each month. The acronym for J.O.Y is Jesus, Others, Yourself. God said to love God and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

We are all called to be saints. So how can we live a spiritual and faithful life daily?...

Sunday: Go to Mass and keep the day for God, family and friends.

Sunday through Saturday: In addition to following the 10 Commandments, we should PRAY, PRAY, PRAY! Remember we talked about five types of prayer...

1. Thankful- thank God for all you have (family, friends, school, health).

2. Praise- praise God for Him, Jesus, and Mary.

2. Intercession- Ask for help from the saints in heaven (church triumphant) and the people on earth (church militant).

3. Forgiveness- Ask for God's mercy for your sins that you commit EACH day, in thoughts, words and actions.

4. Petition- Ask Jesus to help you with a situation, circumstance or problem.

Tuesdays: Go to RE! Meet in church and LISTEN to Father. He will lead us in a short lesson and we will pray one decade of the rosary together. Mom and dad are ALWAYS welcome to stay!

"Extra Credit"

I distributed a list of activities for "extra credit" that each student can choose to do throughout this RE year. The purpose of these activities is to challenge each of you to live out your faith. Each time you complete an activity, you'll get to "dig" into the treasure box!
