Ms. Hannah's Class

WELCOME BACK!!! January 4-8

NO PRESCHOOL Monday, January 4!

January 4-8

This week we will be revisiting expectations and doing a little Positive Behavior Support tune up after the long break! We will (hopefully) have filled our marble jar by this week and will plan on a movie and pajama day Friday, January 8th! We will watch the movie Inside Out and talk about feelings and emotions!

We will read:

  • My Mouth is a Volcano by Julia Cook
  • I Can Share (PBiS Social Story)
  • "I Have a Little Problem" said the Bear by Heinz Janisch
  • On Monday When It Rained by Cheryl Kachenmeister

Our vote questions (one per day) will be:

  • What is your favorite strategy to solve a problem with? (Wait and take turns or Playing together)
  • What makes you happy? (puppies or presents)
  • Do you like to trade or share?
  • Do you like Joy or Sadness?

Pajama Day this FRIDAY!!!!

We will be having movie and pajama day Friday, Jan. 8th! As we revisit emotions, feelings and ways to regulate ourselves, we will watch Inside Out :)

Social Supports

Our social focus over the past few weeks has been strategies to solve problems. We have been working through the following steps when a social problem arises:

1. Identify what the problem is. We ask the question: "What is my problem?"

2. Think, think, think of some solutions. (review the solutions kit--get a timer, trade, ignore, etc.)

3. What would happen? (Would it be safe? Would it be fair? How would everyone feel?)

4. Give it a try.

Language Group January 4-8

Speech-Language Group- Jan 4-8, 2016

We will follow directions identifying the named shape (star, circle, square). We will practice saying words that begin with s- blends (ex. snack, spot, school, etc) while taking turns matching Memory Game pictures. We will review the words and sequence of actions to the "Friends Song".

Vision Screenings

Dear Parents:

We have an exciting partnership opportunity coming up with the Papillion Area Lions Club. School Health requirements from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services include a visual screening. The Papillion Area Lions Club works diligently to improve visual health for children and adults, and will be completing this screening with our preschoolers at no cost to families.

The screening will occur on either January 6th or January 28th at your child’s preschool. The screening will take a few seconds and will involve your child simply looking toward a camera. The Lions Club will provide the District with a written summary of the results which will then be passed along to you. If your child is recommended for follow up from an ophthalmologist and you do not have the ability to access a vision examination, we will work with you to identify resources to cover the cost of the examination.

You have a right to refuse the vision screening by sending this request in writing to your child’s teacher on or before the screening date(s) as well as provide proof that a similar screening has been conducted within the last 6 months.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you!

Dear Parents: If you have a child who is old enough to attend Kindergarten this next year (they need to be 5 on or before July 31), you will need to complete online enrollment for Kindergarten. Please feel free to do this as soon as possible, as that will allow the District to begin to get a count of the children who will be in Kindergarten in the Fall.

How Do You Enroll?

· All students must be enrolled online.

· Please go to

· Click on “Parents” at top right

· On Left side, click on “Enrolling in PLC Schools”

· Then follow Online Enrollment instructions

Kindergarten Round Up Dates will be available after we return from Break. You will be asked to provide current proof of residency at Round Up. Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions! Have a restful break and enjoy your family!

Special Attendance...

Dear Parents: We are quickly approaching the end of our first Semester of preschool! If you have a child who will be transitioning to Kindergarten and you are considering any attendance options other than your child’s neighborhood school, it is important that you learn about transfer options. There are specific deadlines for applying for special attendance, and I wanted to share a resource with you, should you desire more information. Go to our District website ( and click on the “Parents” button at the top of the screen. Next, click on “Changing a Child’s School or District” on the left-hand side of the screen. You will now see all of the information regarding transfer options. Please note: the preschool team is not involved in the special attendance process. You will need to contact Central Office as indicated on the website should you have further questions. We simply want to make you aware of the deadlines that will quickly approach after we return from Winter Break and provide the website information should you have an interest in this topic.

I hope you and your family have a restful and relaxing Winter Break! We look forward to seeing our preschoolers in 2016! As always, please feel free to contact me with questions regarding early childhood. Sincerely, Kristy Feden, Supervisor of Early Childhood (
