A Message from Mrs. Caudill
March…..In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb! It seems February passed by in the blink of an eye, and I, for one, am looking forward to sunshine and brighter days!
The month of March is a time of transitioning from the many winter activities into the anticipation of spring. As we hope for warmer weather, we want to keep our students focused on continuing to strive to do their best. I appreciate all of the effort you put in at home to ensure this carries over into their school day, as it impacts their success here at school. Thank you to all of our students, staff, and families for your participation and continuous support.
Stay Well,
Devon Caudill

READING TIPS FOR FAMILIES
In celebration of reading month and lifelong reading each week we will be sharing tips for parents and guardians to help grow the readers in your own families, no matter the age.
This week’s focus: Reading Aloud - Building bonds and Building bridges
Follow this link and listen to this interview with Keisha Siriboe, Ph.D, who shares with parents/families how to find ways to fit reading aloud into our busy lives as a way to form bridges to bonding and creating meaningful experiences and connections for building lifelong readers and relationships regardless of age or ability. Stories are all around us. How reading aloud can help you bond with your kids and make them better readers - MindShift
Reading aloud:
Promotes expressive speaking – understanding how to incorporate emotion and pacing into the written word
Benefits fluency – reading orally gives kids the opportunity to practice fluency and gain feedback on their pronunciations and emphases of words
Improves comprehension – the more adept children become at reading the more confident they become in accessing information
Helps develop critical reasoning – reading aloud, especially in front of people, means that the reader is more invested in the process and more likely to think about what he or she is saying while reading (the words matter more)
Give opportunities to practice expressive language skills

MARCH FOCUS: TRUSTWORTHY! HABIT 6: SYNERGIZE!
What this means: Working together is better. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
“I get along well with other people and work well in groups.”
“I value the strengths of others and allow myself to learn from them.”
“I know that working together as a team we can get more done and come up with better solutions than we could alone.”
“I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems.”
How can I do this in my life?
With your children, choose a problem you may have (like curfew or completing tasks). Use the Synergy Action Plan to summarize your child's solution and your solution: (1) define the problem, (2) share your views, (3) think of solutions, (4) choose the best solution together. See if you can reach a better solution (The High Way) than either of you could come up with alone.
