A Special Message from the Principal, Dr. Miller
MMAFA Scholars & Families,
I truly hope that you, your family and friends are safe and healthy. I miss seeing our babies and pray that they are all well. While this time was unforeseen, this is a great time to spend with family, rest, reflect and enjoy the outdoors more. I realize that you all have a plethora of questions and concerns as we navigate this unchartered territory that is the COVID-19 pandemic. As we all begin to navigate a new way of life on many fronts, I want to personally let you all know that we are working on a plan to continue learning from home. In lieu of schools closing across the nation, the governor in collaboration with TEA has cancelled the STAAR Test for the 2019-2020 school year.
This is an exciting time to dive into technology as a family, which is typically our scholars preferred way of learning. As we work closely with the district on certain aspects of learning, I want to make you all aware of the online programs that are already available to all HISD students. The goal for next week is to have all scholar’s login and familiarize themselves with these digital resources. In addition to these resources, please also encourage scholars to read, read, read!
All students have access to the HUB and Google Classroom.
Here are directions on how to log into the HUB:
· Go to houstonisd.org/hub
· When prompted with the Houston ISD login service screen enter:
· Username: student\s####### (“#” is your child's student ID number)
· Password: 8 digit birthday (Ex. August 10, 2008 is 08102008)
· Click the tab for Digital Resources
· Scroll down and click on:
· Imagine Math
· Imagine Language and Literacy
· MyOn Digital Books
· Edgenuity
· Achieve 3000
To ensure we meet the needs of all our students we are asking everyone to fill out this survey here. Using the information from the survey, we will begin to distribute technology to those in need. For scholars who do not have access to technology (phone, ipad, computer, tablet, etc.) we will be providing grade level aligned printed resources for scholars to complete.
Next week teachers will begin contacting scholars to check in with them as well as provide next steps for learning. In addition, we will be opening the school to give families an opportunity to pick up any medications from the nurse, printed instructional packets, and technology for all our Special Education and English Language Learners.
