UPK-12 Information
Donations to the Food Pantry: At our powder puff game, we received $470.00 in donations to add to the large donation of food for the Avon Food Pantry. Thank you to the Avon community for your support!
Quarantines: The district is finding that most of our quarantines up to this point are coming from the cafeteria. This is due to the length of time students are unmasked while eating. Typically, students are directed to quarantine if they are within six feet of another person and unmasked for more than 15 minutes. Here are some practices that we are putting in place to limit student quarantines:
- Creating seating arrangements that maximize physical distancing. Due to the number of students in the eating spaces, we are typically able to distance 3-6 feet.
- Remind students regularly to mask after they are finished eating.
- Encourage students to go outside with a monitor to eat or after they finish eating.
- Encourage students to rotate seats after they are finished eating, so that they are not sitting with the same group of students for more than 15 minutes.
- Regularly review expectations with students.
Safety and Security Information: We will be conducting our regular fire drills and lockdown drills throughout the school year. Two years ago, as part of the district’s ongoing commitment to enhance safety and security, blue strobe lights were installed on the exterior of every school building. The blue lights signal that the school is in a lockdown. If you are dropping your child off and the lights are on, that is a signal not to enter the building because we are in a lockdown. When we have a lockdown drill, parents will be notified during the drill. If you have been made aware that it is a drill, please wait in the parking lot until the lights turn off (signaling that we are out of lockdown). If you have not been made aware that there is a drill, please exit the campus.
Professional Learning Day (10/8/21): There is no school for UPK-12 students on Friday,
October 8, 2021 due to it being designated as a professional learning day for district staff members. This is a day where all staff will participate in professional development activities related to our district’s strategic plan.
Columbus Day Observance (10/11/21): In observance of Columbus Day, school will not be in session for students and staff on Monday, October 11th.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions. Please feel free to call or email us:

5-8 Information
Drop-off and Pick-up Information: The doors at the middle school office entrance are open to students at 7:45 am. If you are transporting your child to and from school, please use the Middle School Transportation Loop to drop off and pick up your child/children from school. For the safety of our students and staff, please use extreme caution as you proceed through the transportation loop. Also, since students and staff use the parking lot to travel to and from the building, please do not drop off or pick up your child in the middle school parking lot unless you are parked in a space located at the far end of the parking lot. Thank you in advance for your help in keeping students and staff safe as they enter and exit the school building.
After School Supports: If your child stays after school to receive assistance from a particular teacher, staff will be available (most days) to work with students in their classrooms from 2:25 pm until 3:05 pm. If your child does not stay after school to work with a teacher, but has an extra-curricular activity that begins at 3:15 pm, your child needs to report to the cafeteria until dismissal at 3:05 pm. Mrs. Rebecca Rio, the after-school monitor, will be there to supervise students.
9-12 Information
Braves Academy: Our ninth-grade students experienced our first Braves Academy on September 17th. Students learned about and explored the following:
Defining Success and Creating Goals
Academic Honesty
Google Drive Organization
HS Expectations (Braves Way)
SchoolTool Parent Portal
SchoolTool: In order to access your child’s progress reports and report cards, you will need to have a parent/ guardian portal account in the district’s school management system, SchoolTool. A parent/guardian portal access guide to SchoolTool is attached to this email to assist you in establishing your parent/guardian portal account. Once you have a parent/guardian portal account, you will have access to not only your child’s grades, but also to his/her attendance, daily schedule, behavioral reports, and state assessment scores. If you encounter any difficulties acquiring or accessing your parent/guardian portal account in SchoolTool, please feel free to contact Jim Ellis, the ACS Technology Coordinator, at jimellis@avoncsd.org.
