2019 Summative Designation
Dear Sorrick Community,
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released our annual School Report Card on Oct. 30 at www.illinoisreportcard.com. The Report Card shows how well our school is progressing on a wide range of educational goals. We are proud of our students’ hard work as shown in both their growth and overall achievement.
This progress reflects the importance we place on how to meet the individual needs of our students. We value the information we receive from state, district, school and classroom student achievement data and use it to inform our decisions.
We would like to highlight the investments that we have made in providing our students with targeted interventions through programs such as first grade literacy support with certified reading specialists, ASSETS, Learning Links and daily small-group guided instruction within the classroom. Our teachers, administrators, and staff, in partnership with you, are continuing to focus on reducing chronic absenteeism through a school-wide focus on the importance of attendance in the primary grades. We are also striving to meet the needs of the whole child through our PBIS program and a focus on social-emotional learning.
One component of the School Report Card is the summative designation – a descriptor of how well our school is meeting the needs of all students. Our 2019 school’s designation is based on eight indicators of academic success and school quality. Our designation of Exemplary means that Sorrick is performing in the top 10% of schools statewide, with no underperforming student groups.
More information on NPD117’s academics and finances can be found on the Illinois Report Card website (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/District.aspx?districtId=07016117002). As always, please contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns.
Thank you for your continued partnership to ensure every child at Sorrick School is thriving.

5Essentials Survey
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides an opportunity for parents, students, and staff to share specific information about their school. The survey information is part of the school report card. In NPD117, we use this information in our continuous improvement process.
If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school. The parent survey is available in both English and Spanish, and only takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. This survey will be available until February 14, 2020.
To take this short survey:
- Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
- Type and select “Cook” as "County."
- Type your child’s school name into the "School" field and select your school.
Thank you in advance for your input!

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Please note that parents of kindergarten and first grade students with two teachers (an ELA teacher and a Math teacher) will only need to sign up for a conference with the ELA teacher. Math teachers will join in these conferences at the selected date and time.
If your child sees a specialist (Speech & Language Pathologist, Social Worker, Reading Specialist, etc.) you will also have the opportunity to sign up for a conference time to meet with these staff members. If you have any questions about parent-teacher conferences, please contact your child's teacher or the Sorrick office at 708-233-8200.
