PTO and Guiding Coalition (SAC) Meetings
The Howbert Guiding Coalition (SAC) is a team of staff and parents/guardians that meet monthly to learn about what is happening at Howbert Elementary, ask questions, and provide input.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, December 15th from 5:00-6:00 in-person at Howbert or online via Webex (click here to join meeting).
We encourage and welcome your partnership in the Guiding Coalition.
STAR Assessment
Beginning Monday, December 5th, students in grades 2-5 will be taking the middle of year STAR assessment in reading and math.
The information that we gain from this assessment helps teachers plan instruction that meets the needs of each student.
The assessment generally takes less than 20 minutes to complete (each).
Encourage your child to do their very best on the assessment and to show what they know and can do!
Concrete Work at Howbert
All concrete improvement work will be done and students and families will be able to access all areas of the school grounds starting Monday.
Landsharks Running Program (Spring)
Landsharks would like to establish a running program through Howbert Elementary for the spring.
The non-competitive youth program introduces running to young athletes in a safe and fun environment. The focus is on self improvement, being an encouraging teammate, and making new friends.
Practices are scheduled two or three times per week, before or after school for 45 to 60 minutes. Practices consist of running games and track workouts with a strong focus on fun.
Races are held on Sunday afternoons or Monday/Wednesday/Thursday nights, depending on your location. Races are held at high school and middle school tracks, and last for approximately 90 minutes.
Send me an email if you would be interested in supporting this program at Howbert in the spring.
WANTED: Refrigerator!
If you have a refrigerator that needs a home and are willing to donate or sell, please contact the Howbert front office (328-4200).
The refrigerator in our staff lounge decided to begin its retirement in the middle of the school year!
š§£Lost & Foundš§¤
Are you missing a mitten? Have a lost lunchbox? Make sure to check the LOST & FOUND! It is overflowing with coats, hats, gloves, and more. Starting next Tuesday we will put items outside on the wooden fence for families to go through. Hopefully you will be reunited with a long lost item!
***Over Winter Break we will donate any items that are not claimed.*** Please check the lost & found before we leave for break on December 16th.

Inclusiveness At Home Activities
The activity below can be used to support families by talking openly about inclusiveness --
what it means to you, what it means for your family, and how you
actively work to include each other.

From D11:
Thanks to your partnership, D11's preliminary enrollment numbers are rising. We are beating our projected enrollments at many of our schools, and most of our elementary schools have beaten last year's October Count number. For all of our 22,046 students, this means proper funding for our great programs and amazing staff, so our students get the best education. D11ās choice enrollment window is open now through Feb. 15, so please tell your friends, neighbors, and anyone who is looking for a great school to enroll today by visiting D11.org/enrollment.
