Message From Substitute Principal, Sue Scott

From the desk of the principal:

A NOTE OF THANKS...

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all you for welcoming me into the Tualatin Elementary community during Jim's absence. I have enjoyed getting to know your children and supporting this amazing staff. While I know that the phrase "It takes a village to raise a child," is a bit overused, I do believe that it takes the support of a strong partnership between families and the school community to give every child what he/she/they need to be successful.

Sue Scott

Substitute Principal

DON'T LOOK NOW, but there is some crazy hair and many students and staff in pajamas. What's going on? If you didn't know, we celebrated Spirit Week this past week. The creativity that went into some of the days' themes was outstanding! Go Black Bears!

CONGRATULATIONS to our 4th and 5th grade black belt recorder achievers. Your dedication and commitment to learning and performing nine songs on the recorder, including "Ode to Joy", is impressive and deserving of praise.

LET'S CELEBRATE FRIDAY with the Tualatin Elementary School community by enjoying some Kona Ice. Join us in the school parking lot from 3:30-6:00 this Friday, April 14th, for some Hawaiian ice while playing on the playground. This is a fundraiser for our PTA who raises money that supports our school.

SAY AHHHH as you participate in the free dental screening the week of April 24th-28th. In addition to an exam, free sealants and fluoride will be offered. See below for the links to sign up for an appointment.

STREAM NIGHT is quickly approaching. Friday, April 28th, Tualatin Elementary will be buzzing as teachers and local businesses provide STEM activities. Our PALA group will have piñatas and Art Literacy will have a project for students to make. Art will be on display. Free food will be provided beginning at 5:30. The night will end at 8:00. Be sure to put it on your calendar now!

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A NEW CHALLENGE? We are looking for an energetic and kid-loving individual to join our AMAZING Recess Ranger team. What's a Recess Ranger? A loving adult who wants to join our school community in supporting students as they eat and play. The hours are from 10:30-1:15, leaving time for those other daily activities. The other bonus to the job is that you are on the same school schedule as your student/s.

If this sounds like the job for you, please click on the link to complete an application or reach out to the front office. We would be more than happy to talk to you about this position.

Hurry...the job will go fast!

Recorder Black Bear Black Belts and Doughnuts

What is Recorder Karate? Students learned nine songs on recorder over a span of two months, each song being a different level and "belt" color. Our 4th and 5th graders just finished the Recorder Karate program and those students who earned Black Belt gathered together to celebrate their hard work with donuts! Many of these Black Belt students practiced recorders at home for several hours over those two months to achieve their goal! It is so fun to see students learn to read music and play together and we are proud of ALL our 4th and 5th grade students for their hard work learning a new instrument!

Club K Survey and Zoom Meeting

We are excited to have on-site daycare at Tualatin Elementary beginning in the Fall! Our new provider will be Club K, who currently provides extended-day care at several of the TTSD elementary schools. Club K is able to provide before and after school care, full days on non-school days, and also has options for 2023 Summer care. They accept DHS childcare subsidies and have a staff member who can help parents navigate the paperwork for the subsidy.

Club K will be hosting a virtual information night on Apr 24, 2023 at 6:30 PM to share their model with families and to answer any questions you might have.

Dental3 Screening

Dental3 will be providing free dental screenings, sealants, and fluoride at Tualatin Elementary for grades K-5 during the week of April 24th. A dental screening is a quick look inside your child’s mouth to check the overall health of their teeth. Dental sealants are protective coatings put on the back teeth to prevent cavities and fluoride is vitamin that is brushed on the teeth to make teeth stronger and prevent cavities.
