Canvas is Coming...

As you may have heard, FISD Secondary schools are in the process of transitioning to a new learning management system called Canvas. We are excited about the enhanced instructional opportunities and one-stop shop for class resources it will provide for our students. Here are some helpful guides for getting set up so you are ready:

Setting up Your Parent Account

As Cobb introduces new features to staff, we will send corresponding information home to parents so that you know how we are using Canvas on campus. Thank you so much for being patient with us as teachers transition.

From the Clinic...

We are beginning to see illnesses start up in our students. No major outbreaks, but fevers, upset tummies, head congestion here and there. If your student has a temperature over 100 degrees, please keep them home for a full 24 hours before sending them back to school (with no medication to reduce the fever). If you take a morning temperature, please check them again in the afternoon/ early evening to make sure the temperature stays below 100. Sending a child back with a fever puts our community at risk of outbreaks, something we would like to avoid if possible.

Frisco Fastpacs Application

If you think your family may qualify for assistance from Frisco Fastpacs, please complete this online form.

Reporting Absences Just Got Easier...

We now have a dedicated email address for attendance, Please use this for communicating attendance-related information. Also, if your student is out for reasons other than illness, please use “Personal” in lieu of travel, etc. so the absence can be excused. If you have questions, please email or call Christie Meece.

FISD Athletic Event Policies...

Are you ready for some football?!? In order to provide the safest and most orderly environment possible at FISD high school and middle school football games, please adhere to the following rules:

1. School dress code applies at all school events.

2. Students should remain in the stands to watch the games and limit their trips to the concession and restroom areas. Students are not allowed to loiter/hang out around the concession and restroom area at any time.

3. Once students leave the game, they are not allowed to return. Students are expected to remain in the stands and are not to move to other areas near the stadiums (baseball/softball fields, parking lots, etc.) where there is no supervision available.

4. Students’ conduct should promote sportsmanship and reflect their team in a positive and respectful manner. Conversations should be appropriate and profanity is prohibited.

5. Students should not have the following items or similar items with them: football, soccer ball, tennis ball, skate board, scooter, etc. Please leave items such as these in the car or at home. These items will be confiscated at the gate if brought to the stadium or gym.

6. Students must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Students are encouraged to call parents at the beginning of the last quarter to pick them up, rather than waiting until the game is over. Administrators will wait with students until they are picked up to ensure student safety, so please ensure that your student is picked up on time.

7. Students not meeting these expectations may be asked to sit with their parents (if parents are present), or to call their parents to pick them up. Students may also not be allowed to return for future extracurricular events.

All of these expectations are also in place for our volleyball and basketball Games. In addition:

1. Students and any other spectators are not to bring food or drink into either of the gyms. Bottles of water are allowed in the gym.

2. Students are not to loiter/hang out in the hallways near the concession stand/restroom area. Students are to remain in the gym, watching the games, and limit their trips for concessions/restrooms to between games.

Thank you so much for your support of our FISD athletes, families and spectators – we’ll see you at the games!

Connect at Cobb and Join a Club!

One of the best parts of middle school is getting involved with groups of your peers to do something you enjoy. Students who feel connected to school are more likely to have a number of positive health and academic outcomes. Check out the club list here! And if we don't have one that interests you, you can start your own! Just find a staff member to sponsor your club and he/she will take it from there. See Mr. Matisoff if you have questions.
