Pop-It's

This new fad is starting to cause lots of problems with our students in school. The children are playing with them and not following directions, not focusing and getting very distracted. The small ones that are on their backpacks are fine as they kids can't play with those during the day, but bigger and bigger ones are coming to school and they will no longer be allowed. Please remind your children to leave their toys at home.

Some teachers are using them as part of math and are handed out and when finished picked back up...that's fine and engaging for the kids. That will still be allowed at they belong to the teacher and are monitored.

Assignment Notebooks

Children in grades 3-5 have been given their assignment notebooks. We are asking for $6.00 per student to help pay for them. Please send the money in an envelope labeled assignment notebook. The envelopes will be sent to the office. If we could have payment by October 1st that would be great. Thanks for your help.

Chromebook Insurance

The deadline for chromebook insurance is coming up! Thursday September 30th is the last day you can sign up for the insurance for the year. The cost is 25.00 and you can pay through Skyward. If you have any questions, click on the link below for more specific information on what is covered. $25.00 for the school year is a bargain, because fixing the chromebooks can be very expensive. Even if you signed up previously for the insurance you must re-apply every school year.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Please do not drop students off on the opposite curb from where school is and walking them across. This holds up the line, but is also dangerous. I see it happen constantly and while we'd like to think that drivers are being careful when they drive around our school, it isn't always the case. We don't want your child to be in a tragic accident.

Please do not bring pets to pick up or drop off your child. We have children with allergies, but we have also had instances where the dogs have gotten loose and really caused problems. I love my dog too, but please leave them at home.

Please note the drop off locations and where you are allowed to park and get out of your car.

CoVid Information

Families will be notified if their child is found to have been in close contact with a CoVid positive case at school. Close contact is if your child is within 3 feet of this person for more than 15 minutes without a mask. The only time they would be considered close contact would be at lunch when students have masks off. The remainder of the school day, students have masks on. Mask breaks are less than 15 minutes.

If your child is found to be a close contact then they will have to quarantine for a period of time. More information will be given to you regarding your particular circumstances. Students may also be quarantined due to showing symptoms.

When students are quarantined, they will be given work for someone to pick up in the foyer of school. Students will get in invitation to a Homework Help Google Classroom to log on between 3:30 and 4:30 to get assistance from a Hannum staff member for work that they are struggling with. They just need to log on during that time and someone will be available to help them while they are quarantining.

Hannum Afterschool Clubs

Most of our afterschool clubs are for our older students, but I wanted to make sure that everyone is aware that when our students stay for clubs, they end at 4:30. This is when the office closes, so if a parent/guardian is late picking up your children, you are holding back the Hannum staff from going home to their families.

We understand that sometimes things happen and kids are picked up late. That's fine. It's when it becomes habitual that we have a problem. If you child is picked up late 3 times (without a phone call or any notice) they are out of the club. We have many students that want to participate, and we can't always accommodate them, so we do have a wait list.

If children are picked up habitually late....even with a phone call, I will be making a phone call to let you know how much longer we can keep your child. There have been times that either myself or my staff have missed appointments waiting on parents. Please be on time, clubs are a whole hour after school should be over.

Hannum Yearbook (2020-2021 School Year)

Our Hannum Yearbooks from last school year have been delayed. We are expecting them to come within the next month or so. We have been in contact with Van Gogh, which is the company that puts the book together, and they are working at getting them to us. Thank you for your understanding. Until they are printed, you can still order last year's.

SHIELD Illinois

Please check out the button below for information on opting in to having your child proactively tested for Covid 19. We are still waiting for the first round to begin.
