Principal's Notes and Highlights

Happy Friday!

Today was a good day, but it had the potential to be so much better. We had planned to announce the completion of the playground at Town Hall Meeting. Unfortunately, the PIP (soft surface) installers ran out of supplies. I've been told it will open early next week. We did go through playground training with students this morning. They loved getting to see it up close and we saw many butterflies. It was a great introduction to our new play space.

  • A special thank you to Allen Garrett for sharing some incredible photos of the playground under construction. I also included a video he shared in this newsletter. We are definitely maximizing all areas of the school grounds!

  • Our friends from Miyoshi, Japan arrived Wednesday evening. I was able to show them around Columbus on Thursday and will be taking the leaders on a tour of Indianapolis this Sunday. I have really enjoyed this experience!

  • Passions for 3rd-6th grade students start next Friday!

  • This past Wednesday we counted how many cars came through the car line. Between 7:30-7:48 a.m. 95 cars dropped off students for school. Between 2:45-3:00 p.m. 57 cars picked up students to go home. This is a large number of vehicles. While the line may feel long, we are moving people through it effectively. Please be ready to pull up and depart swiftly. Go team!

  • School Pictures are next Tuesday.

  • Registration for Girls on the Run and Trailblazers is still open. See the attached flyer for details.

Have a great weekend!

PTO Update

Couldn't make it to the PTO Mix & Mingle last night? Here's a quick review:

Don't be afraid, it's just an email...

PTO email is a great NO PRESSURE way to learn about opportunities to help out so you are able to jump in where you can, if you can, in whatever capacity you can. If you don't have the time or resources to participate in one opportunity simply DELETE the email and maybe the next opportunity will be one you can get involved with. We LOVE our parent volunteers and couldn't pull off all of the fun stuff we do without you so if you aren't currently on the PTO email list but would like to change that, send us your request to be added to ptocsalincoln@gmail.com!

Coke Rewards Program

Reminder that Coke codes are worth double the donation from now until August 27th! See www.coke.com/gives for more details or drop your Coke codes in the school office and we'll enter them for you!

BCPL Cards for Students

We will be kicking off a reading challenge for all grades in September. One of the advantages of our location is the proximity to downtown, specifically the Bartholomew County Public Library (BCPL). We have been working closely with the BCPL for a few years and just learned that we can sign students up for library cards. Our plan is to take each class once a month to the county library to check out books. These books would be kept in the classroom unless you discuss something different with your student's teacher. This is an incredible opportunity for our students to have access to a much larger variety of books than we can provide at school!

If you have questions or prefer your child not check out a book from the BCPL, please let your student's teacher know. Say yes to reading!
