We Did It - Week 4 of Distance Learning Complete!

Hello Bobcat Families!

We made it through Week 4 - thank you for posting videos, pictures, sitting by your child, and most of all, for staying strong as parents first and foremost. We are reminded every day when things get tough, that we are here for one another, as families, as a community, and as a team. We have loved "seeing" you this week through Virtual PTA Meetings, small group Google "Hangouts," pictures on dojo, Seesaw, Padlet uploads, and more! Who knew how connected we could stay through technology. Please also remember to take a break from technology when you think it is appropriate for your child. We know screens can be overwhelming at times, and breaks are crucial to keeping us ALL healthy and happy!

We are kicking off SPIRIT WEEK and READ-A-THON next Tuesday - so use this weekend to get ready for both. All of the details about these two BIG annual events are below, so be sure to keep on scrolling!

As a reminder - there is no school (Distance Learning) on Friday or Monday. School starts again on Tuesday!

Below are a few fun things to do over the weekend that we have come across during the week.

The Greenwich Police Department is putting on a Bear Hunt in town. Take a walk or a drive and try to spot bears in our local shops and home windows. There is a rumor you might be able to spot one at Western Middle School as well! Greenwich Bear Hunt

The PTA Needs us - can you help?

Now, before you keep scrolling past this...read below...the time commitment could be less than one hour per month!

We need your help! Please consider volunteering for a PTA position for next year. All of the executive board positions will be open and we desperately need people to fill them. We are very fortunate that our current executive board members will remain active participants in our PTA and will offer continued support and training for those willing to take on the leadership positions. Maybe you want to partner with a friend to hold a position to split some of the work.

Please let Ms. Bartholomew or PTA Co-Presidents Clare Kilgallen or Dawn Zimmerman at NewLebanonPTA@gmail.com know if you will consider this. Remember, many hands make for light work! Nominations for 2020/21 begin now because NL PTA Elections are April 28, 2020. Please send all nominations to Ms. B. or NewLebanonPTA@gmail.com.

Open positions: Co-President, Secretary, Co-Treasurer, VP Fundraising, VP Curriculum Enrichment

The positions of President, Secretary, and Treasurer must be filled because they are required in order for the PTA to exist.

Position descriptions and exact time commitments to come!!!

There are playbooks of how events have been run so you aren't starting from scratch!

Second Step at Home!

In Greenwich Public Schools, we use a social emotional learning curriculum called Second Step. They recently came out with many resources for parents to use at home!

How to file for unemployment benefits:

To speed up the processing of claims, unemployed residents who have not yet filed should:
  • Visit www.filectui.com
  • Click the link that says “For quicker payment of unemployment benefit, please follow these instructions”
  • Information will be provided on filing claims as a “Temporary Shutdown” option and provide guidance on entering a return to work date.
For additional information read the list of Frequently Asked Questions the agency created related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Free, On-Line Tax Preparation Available
VITA, the IRS’s companion to the AARP volunteer income tax program, has initiated a virtual (on-line) option for the free preparation and e-filing of your taxes. For those who have been coming to the Greenwich Library or Town Hall, this is the equivalent program. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance has opened an online option to offer assistance with the preparation of your taxes. You will need between 20 to 30 minutes to complete and submit the form. VITA will then schedule a one-hour time slot on the portal to have a phone or video interview to complete and review your return. Please click here for answers to frequently asked questions and further information (en español). Begin the process now.

Neighbor to Neighbor food pantry relocation
Neighbor to Neighbor food pantry operations have been relocated to the Arch Street Teen Center because its space allows for more social distancing among staff and volunteers who are now organizing weekly food baskets that will be delivered to clients. Drop-ins to pick up food are suspended for the time being. If you need food assistance, or know of someone who does, please call the Department of Human Services at 203-622-3800.

Health Department info lines
The Health Department continues operation of dedicated phone lines to receive residents’ calls and answer concerns. The health line phone numbers are: 203-622 -7865, 203-622-7703, 203-622-7614, 203-622-7842 and 203-622-7836. For more information on limited services during this time please visit the Department of Health’s webpage.

Reporting Non-Emergency COVID-19 Activity Concerns
If you are concerned about an activity or an organization not following guidelines issued through COVID-19 related Executive Orders and emergency declarations, please call the Greenwich Police Department’s non-emergency phone number at 203-622-8004.
If you are experiencing mild symptoms of illness and are not in a high risk group that you contact your personal physician rather than call 911. If you have mild symptoms, do not go to the emergency room before contacting your doctor for direction. If you have any serious symptoms, please do not hesitate to call 911. Please save 911 for real emergencies.
