Let's Gather!
On Thursday, March 31st, Tina Condon of Steakburger will be onsite serving up their specialties. Tina and her family are long term residents of Ridgefield. She is South Ridge Alumni and a Spudder Grad! Her four children also attended and graduated from Ridgefield School District, and her grandson currently attends elementary in our district as well!
Geoff Sainsbury of The Doghouse, another local favorite, will also be onsite with his mobile hot dog cart! Geoff has been a resident of Ridgefield for 8 years. He and his wife, also a local business owner, feel privileged to live in and serve our community. In Geoff's words, "It's by far the best community I've ever come across. Everyone seems to know each other and really care about keeping that small town charm." Geoff only operates here in Ridgefield and loves meeting new neighbors, so come by and introduce yourself!
Food carts will be near our playground with covered seating available, but feel free to bring blankets and personal seating. We will have activities for families and performances from our Roadrunner musicians.
RSVP to let us know you're joining!
Counselor's Corner
March is Women's History Month during which we are encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. This year's theme set by the National Women's History Alliance is "Providing Healing, Promoting Hope."
Let's celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields.
Our counselors put together Google Slides highlighting 20 prominent women. Each slide contains a read aloud, famous quote and a brief video bio. This resource was shared with teachers to support classroom discussions, and can easily be extended into conversations in the home.
Parent Pick Up Reminder
For students that are in K or 1, please use the parent pick up lanes. Kindergarten is the lane closest to the sidewalk. Refrain from parking and getting out of your vehicle. We have had many parents signaling students from the west side of the parking lot sidewalk area. This is a safety issue. We do not have crosswalk coverage on that side of the lot, there is moving traffic, and we cannot keep a visual on students to ensure they are being picked up by the appropriate adult. We also have students walking to the buses from Building B along this sidewalk and need to keep the sidewalk clear for them.
We have also had issues with parking in the ditch along the side of 199th. This is causing damage to the school property, is becoming a traffic hazard, and with our wet weather has caused vehicles to get stuck in the mud. We are not able to assist in removing any vehicle that gets stuck in the ditch.
Thank you for helping to keep South Ridge a safe campus for our students.

Math Play Every Day
Engage your student in reasoning with this fun activity from Math Anywhere! This place-based printable will help get the math conversation started with your student.
This month, students are asked to compare two pets, and consider “How are these dogs the same and different?”
Follow the prompts as you observe the objects:
What makes them the same?
What makes them different?

My name is Celia: The life of Celia Cruz
By Monica Brown
An exuberant picture-book biography of the Cuban-born salsa singer. From its rhythmic opening, the first-person narrative dances readers through Cruz’s youth in Havana, a childhood bounded by scents of nature and home, the sweet taste of sugar, and the sound of music. A singer from an early age, Cruz sang so continually that one of her teachers finally urged her to share her voice with the world. Thus encouraged, she entered competitions, undeterred when her racial heritage prevented her from competing – undeterred, even, when the advent of Castro’s communist regime forced her to leave Cuba as a refugee. Positive even in exile, Cruz made New York City her own and took Miami by storm. The salsa-influenced prose presented in English and in Spanish is followed by a straightforward vita of the singer, noting her death in July 2003. Lopez’s distinguished, luminous acrylic paintings are alive with motion, lush with brilliantly layered colors, and informed with verve and symbolism.
Social Emotional Activities
Understanding Feelings Activities- Feelings (emotions) are a part of human nature. They give us information about what we’re experiencing and help us know how to react. In order to handle difficult or challenging situations, it is important that both children and adults learn to recognize and understand their emotions and learn to understand that all people have emotions. Understanding Feelings lists several activities that will allow practice skills for recognizing and managing emotions.
