Mrs. McGeorge's Super Second Grade
Week of September 7, 2015
What We Are Learning
We are working on narratives. This week, we are talking about characters and settings in narratives. We are also starting to identify the beginning, middle, and end of narratives. We are using graphic organizers to plan our own personal narratives.
We are still working on addition and subtraction strategies through different games and activities. We are also starting to work on our "Make 10" math facts (7+3, 5+5, etc.). We have a "test" Tuesday that requires students to count accurately and determine the difference between two numbers (we have practiced this extensively in class).
This week, we are wrapping up our Life Cycles unit. We are using science vocabulary like offspring, larva, pupa, and metamorphasis to describe the life cycles of different animals. We have our unit test Friday, but we will have reviewed plenty in class.
Our Reading Party was a blast!
Other Important News
- Due to the short school week, we will not have a Spelling list or test this week.
- Scholastic Book Orders came home last week. If you are interested in purchasing books for your child, please submit your order and payment online or in your child's Take Home Folder by Friday, September 11. Thank you!
- Our school's major fundraiser is continuing until September 18. Students wishing to earn their "monsters" or "monster food" should bring their packets in on Fridays.
- A handout for Highlights magazine is coming home on Tuesday, September 8. Even if you do not wish to order Highlights magazine, please complete this paper and return it to school. If we have 15 handouts returned (with a yes or no response), we can earn a Highlights subscription for our class so our students can read it in class!
