Beaumont Staff Weekly Update

A pledge of self care
Many of you know that I took Friday afternoon off to take my boys out for a special evening. It was a surprise to them to go to the Fox Theater for the Cirque Dreams Holidaze performance. When they finally were told what we were doing, my 13 year old (Jackson) was super excited and my 17 year old (Nicklas) pouted. Sigh... However, when we walked into the Fox, I heard Nicklas say- Wow, this is pretty cool. All through the performance, although he wouldn't admit it, I heard him make comments to his brother about how cool some of the acts were. When I dropped them off this morning at their dad's house I heard him say, "Mom took us to this really cool show, but don't tell her I told you that." Why am I telling you this? Well, first of all- MOM WIN!!!! Secondly, I took a half day to do something important with my family and it puts my soul at peace. I can't always give them my 100% because life is so busy, but I need to make time for them. You should too: for you, your family, your friends. Our work is hard and in order to do it well, we need to take care of us and ours first. Thirdly, some of the things we do with the biggest impact may never be acknowledged or thanked. I was lucky enough to hear my son's comment this morning but sometimes we don't hear that from our students. In such a short time here at Beaumont, I have seen so many "little" gestures of kindness and grace with students that make a huge impact. I am so grateful to be a part of such a giving team.
After dessert and coffee at The Whitney, we went home and practiced the Floss at midnight in the living room. I at least have one dance down! haha!
Don't forget to continue our festive themes throughout the week!
16th- Holly Jolly Christmas!- Wear your favorite holiday shirt
17th- Tree Topper- Wear your favorite holiday hat, headband, elf ears, etc.
18th- Mad about Plaid- Wear your favorite plaid
19th- Tacky not Classy- Wear your tackiest Christmas sweater
20th- Twas the night before Christmas Break- Wear your PJs
Both are thinking the same thing: "Mom wants another picture to remember this night." (The reason tone and expression are so important in reading literature)

Indoor Recess:
Indoor Recess:
1. Students may only be in their own classroom. They are not allowed to travel from classroom to classroom.
2. Students must be in a classroom- not in the hallways
3. Teachers- please only give 2-3 options for activities for students to participate in. Once a student has chosen an activity, they should stick with it the entire recess.
4. Please post their options someplace visible (door, whiteboard, TV, etc) for noon supervisors or myself to help manage your room.
5. Currently, on Thursdays and Fridays we are severely short-handed. If you have suggestions on how to actively supervise multiple classrooms, please share.
6. Any other feedback on lunch or recess is welcome.
