Dear Parents,

Rose has had an incredible week showcasing student talent during the Frozen musical, the district Winter Wonderfest, and yesterday’s orchestra concerts. Your time and support was essential to make these events a success! Thank you for embracing the crazy schedules, late nights, and constant communication that made all of these fun events possible! A huge thank you to Mrs. Blake, Mr. Panagakis, and Mrs. Cleary for all of the time and effort spent preparing our Rose Stingrays to be shining stars! Please read below for school and district news:

  • Congratulations! Akshara K. recently participated in the American Chemical Society's National Chemistry Week, Fall 2021, illustrated poem contest. The theme for this year was "Fast or Slow... Chemistry Makes it Go!" Akshara's poem has been announced as the winner in the regional Chicago ACS section (III-V grade division making this her fourth consecutive win). Click here to see her winning entry!

  • Transportation Updates: Some van routes will be adjusted starting next week. Families will be contacted directly by the transportation department if there is a change. If you are not contacted, your child’s route will not change.

  • Student Vaccination Update: In order to plan for the second half of the 2021-22 school year, Barrington 220 is seeking student vaccination information. Providing proof of vaccination is voluntary. However, students who have not provided proof will be considered unvaccinated for contact tracing purposes. Additionally, understanding the percentage of students who have received the vaccination is a critical data point as we work to maintain a healthy school environment. At this time, children age 5 and over are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. If your child is fully vaccinated (two doses), please send a copy (either a photo or PDF format) of your child’s vaccination card to districtnurseoffice@barrington220.org. Please include your child’s first and last name, as well as the school your child attends. If your child has only received one dose, please send a copy of your child’s vaccination card once the second dose has been administered. If you indicated your child’s vaccination status through Infinite Campus earlier this fall, we are asking that you still submit a photo of your child’s vaccination card to the email listed above. Please note, now that your child is fully vaccinated, your child will no longer be eligible to participate in weekly Shield Testing at school. If you have any questions, please contact our District Nursing Coordinator, Bridget Heroff at bherroff@barrington220.org

  • COVID FAQ’s: This district document has been updated to include guidelines regarding domestic and international travel over winter break. The two main questions include:

Q: My family is planning DOMESTIC travel. What implications does that have for my students when they return?

A: Barrington 220 advises you to consult with the most up-to-date CDC guidance linked below, as vaccination status will impact the types of mitigation needed before, during, and after domestic travel:

Q: My family is planning to travel outside of the United States, INTERNATIONALLY. What implications does that have for my student when we return?

A: Barrington 220 advises you to consult with the most up-to-date CDC guidance linked below, as vaccination status will impact the types of mitigation needed before, during, and after international travel: CDC Internationhttps://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/international-travel-during-covid19.htmlal Travel Guidance

Bus Driver Appreciation

Barbara B. Rose School is proud to recognize and celebrate our amazing team of Bus Drivers who work so hard throughout the year. Bus Driver Appreciation Day is Thursday, December 9th. In honor of that, please consider having your child make a card/note for their bus drivers as a token of their appreciation. We have some treats planned for the bus drivers and our wonderful Stingray Singers will perform for them outside in the afternoon.

Volunteer at Barrington Giving Day

Each December, Barrington Giving Day invites Barrington 220 families in need to a Giving Day event where they receive warm coats, boots, hats, gloves, bedding, books, children's gifts, and more for the holiday. This year over 750 families are invited to the event on Saturday, Dec. 11 at Station Middle School. Click here to sign up for volunteer opportunities.

Thank you to everyone who donated to Barrington Giving Day. Your donations will be appreciated.

My Favorite Things

In the spirit of giving, if you are considering a gift for a Rose Teacher/Staff Member for the Holidays, please see the attached document of their Favorite Things! Not quite like Oprah's List ;) but a fun collection that gives us insight into their personal lives. 'Tis the Season!

Teacher Tributes

This holiday season consider honoring your children's teachers with a Teacher Tribute. A Teacher Tribute is a donation to the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation on behalf of a specific teacher or staff member. The honored teacher/staff member will receive a personalized recognition card to commemorate your thoughtful charitable donation. Teachers receive their Tributes before they depart for winter break. Monies from this donation help to fund the programs that the Educational Foundation supports within District 220. Click here to make your charitable donation to the Foundation in the name of your child's teacher today. Your donation to the Foundation must be received by Sunday, December 12, 2021.

Amazon Smile

The holidays are around the corner and it's a great opportunity for the PTO to increase Amazon Smile donations. If you login to your regular account through www.smile.amazon.com, you can select Barbara B. Rose School PTO as your charity. In the app go to Settings, select Amazon Smile and then search on Barbara B. Rose School PTO. As always we appreciate your support!

Lunchroom Volunteers

We are looking for help in the lunchroom. Please consider volunteering for a day to supervise and help us maintain our safety protocols as students eat lunch. Your consideration is much appreciated! Sign up HERE for DECEMBER.

Recycle Old Shoes

Have any old or worn out athletic shoes? Recycle them at Rose and enter to win Chicago Bulls and Windy City Bulls prizes. The box for recycling and instructions to enter drawings is located in the front entrance of the school.
