Helping Kids after a School Shooting
• Try and keep routines as normal as possible. Kids gain security from the predictability of routine, including attending school.
• Limit exposure to television and the news.
• Be honest with kids and share with them as much information as they are developmentally able to handle.
• Listen to kids’ fears and concerns.
• Reassure kids that the world is a good place to be, but that there are people who do bad things.
• Parents and adults need to first deal with and assess their own responses to crisis and stress.
• Rebuild and reaffirm attachments and relationships.
You can find more information and resources HERE on the American School Counselor Association website.
Greater Indianapolis Northside College Fair
On Wednesday, March 14th students have an opportunity to take advantage of the Greater Indianapolis Northside College Fair to be held at the Grand Park Events Center from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by a consortium of high schools on Indy’s Northside as a way to provide access to college information for local students. Over 100 colleges/universities will be represented at the fair! The event is free, and students in all grade levels are welcome to attend. College fairs are an efficient way to obtain information about many colleges in one place and in a relatively short period of time. No matter where your student is in their post-secondary planning process, we encourage them to take advantage of this chance to gather information, ask questions, and/or make connections with college representatives. Of course, parents are encouraged to attend too!
Students are encouraged to register for the fair in advance at http://indianaacac.gotocollegefairs.com. Registered students will receive a barcode that they can bring with them to the college fair in order to share their information with admission reps.
