Extremophiles
What are extremophiles?
Different types of extremophiles
Lorciferan is a type of Extremophile that can survive without oxygen because they have special organelles
Endoliths live 2 miles under earth or deeper feeding on minerals
Deinococcus radiodurahs can survive 15,000 grays of radiation
Pschrophiles can survive -15 Degrees Celcius
Halophilic can survive extreme sodium counts
Thermococcus can survive with little energy and scorching heat
Hyper thermophilies thrive in heat up to 96 Degrees Celcius
Dunaliella algae live with almost no water
Guiding Question
Reasons Why The Government Should Put In Money For Study
Scientist have found microbes in ice, and they were still alive after 3500 years.
Lake untersee in Antartica has microbes and its conditions relate to mars, comets, and the icy moons of Jupter and Saturn. That means that it is possible that organisims are living on space objects.
Life is also found in nuclear reactors because radiation is found in nuclear reactors, and some planets have radiation.
You could say that penguins are extremophiles, but NASA is specifically looking for microscopic extremophiles because they know that there aren't extremophiles that big on other planets
Scientists once believed that life could only exist if a planet was a certain distance from its star that would allow for liquid water. In recent decades, however, scientists realized that warmth could also come from a process such as tidal flexing, which occurs on Jupiter's moon Io as the little world is affected by the gravity by the nearby, immense planet.
