Hammurabi
Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth
Background
He was very strategic in his military campaigns and whom he made alliances. His careful planning helped him expand the kingdom of Babylon to much larger than anyone before him.
His campaign in Larsa is a perfect example of his military abilities. His army was able to dam the water sources of the city they were trying to conquer. He was then able to threaten to flood the city if they did not surrender. If they did not surrender he would flood the city and attack. Both situations gave him a victory. You are a clever man Hammurabi.
There is not a lot of information about Hammurabi's family. Historians do know that his father, Sin-muballit and grandfather were both kings of Babylon. He did have one sister, Iltani. No one knows the name of his wife, or if he had any other children other than Samsuiluna, who eventually took over for him.
Accomplishments
All of these accomplishments are nothing compared to his greatest legacy, the code of laws. Hammurabi's code had laws that were applicable to almost any situation that could have come up in Babylon. They were extremely harsh, and often used death as a punishment. We know about his law code today because it was discovered in 1902.
Fall from Power
Hammurabi's laws were posted on posts like this one all around his empire.
