What is New Supervisor Orientation?
New Supervisor Orientation is a response to the growing need of support for new supervisor’s transitioning to a supervisory role. The New Supervisor Orientation will provide learning objectives that will ensure the success of new supervisors.
Who is required to attend?
A new supervisor (either current or newly-hired employees with the City of Houston) shall complete the New Supervisor Orientation no later than forty-five (45) days after becoming a supervisor.
What should I expect?
- You are expected to complete web-based training prior to attending the two-day instructor-led classroom training.
- You will receive an overview of the essential skills and key information needed to successfully manage both employee performance and organizational initiatives.
- You will receive a mix of instructor-led training, web-based training, videos, and other blended-learning methodologies.
The Not-So-Fine Print:
New supervisors are responsible for ensuring all online prerequisites and classroom sessions are successfully completed. Additional required supervisory sessions may be added to the New Supervisor Orientation after the original program is completed, and if considered necessary by the Human Resources Department Director.
