Shout Outs, Accolades and News
- Great job to our high school students! - High school students who did not pass the End of Course Exams can retake the test in December. Our students just scored higher this year than last year in 3 of the 6 categories. We feel that some subtle changes that we have made in high school have helped make a difference.
- Chronic Absenteeism - Did you know that chronic absenteeism is defined as anytime a student misses 10% or more of the school days? Unfortunately, this is regardless of being excused, unexcused, or suspended. The other part of the formula is a student must be in school for at least 100 hours. Even if the student leaves the district after 100 hours, they are counted on our report card. The good news is that Ravenna Schools is seeing a decline in chronic absenteeism.
- Winter Writing Festival is a HUGE success for Ravenna students! The Winter Writing Festival is sponsored by Main Street Ravenna. Students from grades 2-12 were invited to participate in this creative writing competition. This year's theme was to write about a mystery that happened in Ravenna. Picture below!
- What is this NEW dyslexia law? You will see some changes beginning next year. Our district has chosen to get ALL K-3 teachers trained to identify characteristics of dyslexia and understand how to teach students who may be at risk of dyslexia. (The State law requires teachers in grades K-1 to be trained by the 2023-2024 school year.) In addition, the building principals and the Director of Curriculum will be trained by the beginning of next year. All students in K-3 will be screened beginning next year using Dibels 8. All results will be recorded in mClass.
