PAC Meeting Review

Our PAC meeting was lightly attended, but none-the-less valuable. Our counselor, Mr. Paterson, facilitated an interactive conversation among those present where experiences, questions, and ideas were shared around the topic of bullying. We discussed how to build resilience in kids, ways to tell if your child is being bullied, and strategies for supporting kids. We also shared ways that students and parents can alert the school if they are aware of bullying on campus.

If you would like to attend the business portion of the meeting, that begins at 5:00 pm. The collaborative conversation begins at 6:00 pm.

Our November meeting will focus on the topic of school safety. We hope to see more parents attend.

Halloween Costume Guidelines

Halloween can be a fun time for students to express their creativity and have fun. While we want to allow students the opportunity to celebrate, we still need maintain a positive and appropriate learning environment. We need your help in ensuring that the costumes worn by our students are school appropriate. With this goal in mind, the following guidelines will assist students in making their costume choices:

1. Dress code applies – this includes attire that is modest and respectful

2. Students must be identifiable – no masks or concealing make up

3. No weapons or imitation weapons

4. Gang attire will not be considered an appropriate costume choice

5. Students should be sensitive to other people when making their costume choices.

We will be monitoring costumes throughout the day. We understand that there is subjectivity to what some might consider appropriate. Our goal is to ensure learning is still the primary focus of the day. Administration will make the final determination. Students that are deemed inappropriately costumed will be changed out and not permitted to wear the costume at school. Students are encouraged to share their costume plan with an administrator beforehand if they feel it could be questionable.

We appreciate your support in helping us to allow students to celebrate a fun day and still get a quality education.

Healthy Choices Parent Information Nights -7th Grade Families

The Healthy Choices comprehensive sexual education and HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum is state-mandated curriculum that includes topics such as pregnancy, relationships, human trafficking, body image, sexual orientation and AIDS and HIV information. The curriculum is taught through our PE and science classes in the spring to all 7th-grade students.

To help parents support the discussion happening in class, we provide an evening to present the curriculum to parents. Because this is district curriculum it is the same at all schools. Below are the dates of the principal led presentation at each of the school sites in the district.

Rancho Pico October 21st at 6:30 pm in the MPR

Sierra Vista October 22nd at 5:00 pm in the Library

La Mesa November 4th 6:30 pm in the Library

Placerita November 7th 6:30 pm in the MPR (Tanner Hall)

Here is a link to the videos that are shown in the classroom:

Parents also have the right to opt their child out of parts or the entire presentation of this curriculum. That form is available HERE. We encourage you to attend one of the presentations before deciding to opt your child out.

Honor Society

Honor Society members are having an incentive meeting in the MPR this Thursday, Oct.24th. Students must bring your ID and sign in at the beginning of the meeting. We will be going over some announcements and talk about our upcoming field trip.
