Grade 8 performs His Last Days

Grade 8 reenacted Jesus' Last Days for our school community to begin Holy Week. It was a prayerful and reverent way to prepare for Easter. Students performed the death and resurrection of Jesus. Thank you to Mrs. Green and Ms. Roell for their dedication and ensuring our students continue to showcase their leadership skills and continue to grow in their faith.

I asked grade 3 students, "What is the task?" They responded with...

Students in grade 3 were required to identify fractions as whole numbers on a number line. They also needed to organize the fractions from least to greatest to get to the next whole.

Jellybean sorting and tallying in K2A! I wonder what Jelly Belly flavor is your favorite?

Sounds like the perfect way to practice math to me...what a delicious treat at the end!

In the last memo, we talked about our student talk to teacher talk ratio that we are working on in classrooms.

To piggyback on this idea, we are encouraging students to think about ways to respond instead of saying, "I don't know?"

Big picture

When students are able to explain their thinking, they are building communication skills as well as becoming more invested in their learning. This is also a great opportunity for students to share their thinking with classmates and small groups, learning to collaborate and work with others. Continued use of academic language and precise discourse is a way to infuse rigorous tasks as well as keep students on track with the lesson.

Go Mrs. Siravo!

We are so proud of you!

Join us in cheering on Mrs. Siravo as she runs the Boston Marathon next Monday, April 16th with Team MR8! We will be at the Finish Line to congratulate you on this monumental success! #SpreadKindness #WeArePeacemakers #LowerMillsLEADERS

Zahyon from K2B, thank you for exemplifying Honesty to Others!

Zahyon continues to model honesty and integrity each day in the classroom and outside of the classroom. He is a role model to the other students in the classrooms. His peers often identify Zahyon as being someone who is always honest and kind. When Zahyon sees that one of his friends needs to take a break, he is always there to guide them and help them get back on track. He truly embodies the spirit of God...Zahyon we are so proud of you!

Many hands, smiling faces, here at our Academy...

Please encourage our students to practice our school song at home! We will be singing it on Tuesdays at Morning Prayer Service.

Lower Mills Innovative Educator Spotlight

Mrs. Tanya Ezekiel

Big picture
Nurse Tanya grew up in South Boston with her sister, she then moved to Dorchester after marrying her husband, Jason. Nurse Tanya has three sons-Ronin, Quinlin and Keegan ranging in age from 5 years old to 8 years old, so let's just say she is one busy woman! The Ezekiel family loves hockey! You can count on finding one of them on the ice during the week and on the weekends. Nurse Tanya travels anywhere from Canton to Maine for her son's hockey tournaments! Somehow, Tanya manages to go to school in the evenings as well. Tanya started her career driving a trolley for the MBTA. She was also teaching children with Autism to swim in partnership with Easter Seals at the South Boston Boys and Girls Club where she was the Aquatics Director. Nurse Tanya knew she always had a passion in working with children and wanted to continue her career. Tanya decided that she wanted to focus on heath and wellness, which led her to pursue her nursing degree. Prior to coming to Lower Mills, she was the Nurse for Columbia Campus. Tanya is an avid reader. She loves to be anywhere near water...the beach, the pool, or a lake. She tries to travel as much as possible with her husband and children. Tanya's husband works for the Boston Police Department Gang Unit and is very involved in community policing as well. Tanya's favorite cuisine is Italian food and she loves to clean! You can always count on the Health Office at school to be immaculate. She makes sure that every nook and cranny is cleaned with Clorox and the wiped with Lysol. Tanya is in charge of overseeing health and wellness community partnerships such as dental screenings at school as well as the UMass Nutrition Program. Nurse Tanya has a very calm and nurturing temperament about her. She is extremely caring and ensures that all of our students are safe and healthy at school. We are blessed to have Nurse Tanya as a part of our school community!
