Staff Update
April 13, 2018
Playground Supervision
As the weather is getting nicer and we are able to be outside more, we want to make sure we have adequate playground supervision. Below is the information from our staff handbook.
Playground: two adults, one of which must be a certified teacher, should supervise at all classes all times on the playground. One certified teacher may supervise individual classes. While supervising students, you should be continually scanning the playground.
Leaving the Building
STEAM Garden
PAST:
Maintenance completed building of boxes. All boxes are finished and will be filled with dirt on soon. Thank you maintenance!
PRESENT:
Boxes were just assigned to classes, and classes can decorate the outside of the boxes. This is not required.
Go outside and check out your box! Do a quick overview with your class.
FUTURE:
Planting will begin very soon!
Mulch needs to be spread between the boxes.
Kindergarten will be assigned to mounds for pumpkins.
1st, 2nd, and DeSantis - Find a few minutes in the near future to clear out your boxes. Start a compost pile located on the map above.
Professional Dress
There are many reasons we dress professionally:
We are role models for our students.
To maintain respect of students and parents.
To establish credibility.
To establish yourself as a professional.
* As we begin to get out our spring wardrobe, please remember what is considered professional dress. This is outlined in the Staff Handbook. We have included it below as well.
Professional Dress
● All staff are expected to dress professionally daily. Jeans should be reserved for Friday with spirit wear and professional in appearance. Jeans should be appropriate for school with the absence of holes.
● Professional dress does not include sweatpants, yoga pants, workout gear, shorts, spaghetti or thin-strapped shirts/dresses, skirts/dresses that are too short, etc. Please use conservative judgment. Please be aware of appropriate coverage in all situations.
Dress Code for students can be found within the student handbook -
MAP, MAP, MAP!
MAP/Wifi
Our MAP testing window for Hillcrest will be from April 30-May 11. We want to make sure everyone has this on your calendars even if you are not a MAP testing grade. During the 2 weeks weeks, we will not have PLCs. These have already been taken off of your calendars. You will have a normal 45 minute plan every day during those weeks. We want everyone to begin planning ahead due to the need for a limited use of technology in the classrooms during that time. During the MAP testing window, there is no video or music streaming as it takes a lot of bandwidth and will kick students off of the assessment. We also ask that student devices are used sparingly during this time unless taken off of the wifi. The use of our 1:1 devices during the testing could once again take students off of testing. During MAP testing would be a great time to incorporate projects that do not require technology so we can ensure a smooth implementation of the assessment.
MAP Hallways Procedure
We want to ensure that all students throughout the school are prepared for MAP testing expectations for the building.
Do Not Disturb Testing Rooms! There can be no disturbances in testing classrooms when the testing sign is on the door. If there is something urgent, please call the office and TJ, Mallory, or Roxanne will get the information to them.
Silent Hallways will be implemented for the entire school from April 23rd-May11th to accommodate small group and classroom MAP testing. We have placed the silent hallways on the calendar a week before testing begins so we can practice this procedure before testing begins. This will be throughout the entire school day since we will have multiple small group and make up testing occurring throughout the school day.
MAP Testing Tips
Since we are last to start MAP testing, we get to benefit from other schools already figuring out issues and steps to take to correct them.
1) Computer is on the black loading screen with the Apple for more than a minute, get them a different computer-if you have them wait it out, it likely won't come up at all.
TIP: Have extra computers logged in and on the testing icon ready to hand to students who have issues with the computer is really helpful.
2) Some students experience the inability to type in the text boxes on the test (sometimes mid-test). If this happens have student pause test and then hit yes, exit. it. Give them a new computer and have them login with their ticket to resume.
3) If a student is having trouble getting logged in to the test and their password is not working, exit out by hitting back and exit until you see computer home screen. Then, click back into the testing icon and try again doing it for them.
