Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
Spring is right around the corner, which means that many of our students will be eager to begin their training for the 2016 Kid's Marathon. An essential component to the success of this program is the presence of volunteers to supervise students as they train in the gymnasium before school. If you are able to help on any mornings, please sign up by writing a note or calling Heidi in our main office. In the past, running sessions have taken place from 8:30-8:50AM. Additional information about the Kid's Marathon will be provided in the coming weeks.
Gr.4 - 6 Field Trip
Students in grades 4-6 will be taking a field trip to the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury on Friday, March 4th. Our educational program for that will be designed to encourage critical thinking and observation skills while exposing students to aesthetic and historical objects within the museum setting, including a piece on display that was created a few years ago by many of our very own students!
Increasing Opportunities In World Language
In order to advance world language studies in high school and to give our students a more rigorous language experience, we will be changing our current 7th grade exploratory format. Beginning in September 2016, seventh grade students will begin world language class upon entering Wamogo and will attend world language classes every other day for the entire year. They will continue to follow this pattern through the eighth grade, completing a whole year of foreign language before entering high school. Students will gain knowledge and experience in developmental guidance, study skills and the Agricultural Science Technology Education program on the days they are not in world language. This new format will create advanced opportunities for our students in world languages and other subject areas. Students currently in sixth grade will be asked to select their language during spring registration.
Students wishing to pursue Latin studies may continue to do so through online learning with Middlebury Interactive. Middlebury Interactive comes with an instructor that students can access for support. Just as with French and Spanish, students will be able to complete Latin I by the time they enter high school.
