Wildcat Weekly 12/4/12/8
Proud Principal of Pomerado Elementary School
The Wildcat Run was a huge success! As a community, we have raised over $28,000 for our school! We couldn’t have done it without each Wildcat, their parents and families that donated and spread the word, and the amazing parents and staff that helped organize this event. We also want to thank all of the parents and family members that showed up to help set up, scan laps and cheer our Wildcats on!
We wanted to give a special thank you to Mrs. Lam, Mrs. Chamberlain, Mrs. Martin & Ms. Thomson for all of the time and energy you spent on making this event a success!
We are excited to finish the 2023 year strong with 3 more weeks of joyful learning before winter break.
Thank you for all that you do to support our school and our students. It is a great privilege to be part of the Wildcat community.

Parking Lot Safety and Dismissal Routines 🛑
Front parking lot
Just a reminder that the front parking lot is for buses and pickup for students with mobility issues only. Our front lot is small and to keep everyone safe we need to limit traffic through this parking lot at the beginning and end of the school day.
Students who walk home
Students who walk home must exit campus through the walker gate and use the sidewalks to follow street safety rules. Safety Patrol and the Crossing Guard are at the corner of Ninth and Pomerado to help students and families to safely cross the roads.
Students who are picked up by car
Students who are picked up by car after school must be picked up at the top lot. We recognize that traffic is heavy in the afternoon but ask that you follow this procedure. Please refrain from parking in the plaza across the street and having your student cross Ninth Street to get to your car. This poses a significant safety risk. We have Safety Patrol stationed at all appropriate crosswalks to help our students and families.
Thank you for your partnership to keep everyone safe as students arrive and dismiss from school each day.
Importance of School Attendance🏫🕰️
Being in school everyday means your child won't miss out on valuable learning and social experiences. When possible, please try to schedule appointments and family trips outside of school hours.
Did you know?
Research around attendance in elementary school suggests:
• Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.
What can you do?
• Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
• Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
• Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
• Introduce your children to their teachers and classmates before school starts.
• Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
• Try to schedule non-urgent related medical appointments and extended trips when school isn’t in session.
• If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
We want to help remove any barriers to school attendance. Please reach out if we can help connect your family with needed resources or services.

PUSD Special Education Parent Engagement Liaison
Hello Families of Students served through PUSD Special Education programs and services. I am the new PUSD Parent Engagement Liaison, and I wanted to share my contact information as well as another wonderful resource we offer, the PUSD Parent Ambassadors program.
Parent Ambassadors are parent volunteers who have their own child(ren) accessing special education services through PUSD. They serve as mentors to guide and support parents of children with IEPs or those exploring special education options. Drawing from their own experiences, they offer invaluable insights and advice to encourage collaboration among parents and school staff on behalf of students.
To reach out to a Parent Ambassador, please submit a request through get connected form.
