Make sure you are enabling all your classmates to achieve. That might mean helping someone who is stuck or giving them quiet time with the teacher. Remember to share that teacher time around so all can achieve.
We have retained the Blanchard Shield!! The most prestigious and coveted sports trophy, perhaps second only to the ‘Caretakers Cup’. The Blanchard is awarded to the fastest swimming school in Franklin. Our team of four: Nate Williams, Abigail Tana, Peyton Cruickshank, and Charlie Dowdall swam superbly in the 4 x 30m freestyle relay to ensure the shield remains firmly in our trophy cabinet. Congratulations to these four and all of our swimmers who gave it everything at the Franklin Swimming Championships and a big thank you to our parent helpers on the day.
Finally, I can sense the excitement in the air. School camp is just around the corner. A huge amount of preparation is taking place for what will be a life changing experience for our kids. Camps are magic. I have been a part of many camps and some of the camp moments I have experienced remain the most enduring and fondest memories of my teaching career. As a matter of fact, I still have some “confiscated torches” from boys who would be well into their twenties now. The moments of growth that happen on camp are hard to replicate anywhere else.
Have a great week.

Insights into Patumahoe School
This is awarded at every Friday assembly by the host classroom teacher. Normally each class hosts one assembly per term. So that means each class is only able to award the Lion four times a year. Hence why it is held in such high regard. If you are chosen as a Lion Award recipient, it is a very big deal. Presenting the award can at times be pretty emotional for our teachers because often the award recognises individual growth, which can hit deep, perhaps more so than say outstanding conduct and achievement. The Lion Award weaves our school values with our school motto of ‘playing the game with pride’ (effort and excellence). So if you do well and more importantly do it the right way, then you could well be the next Lion. Expect a phone call prior to the assembly if your child is a recipient.
BOT Panui
Thanks for the fantastic response to the community survey recently held. One aspect raised was around information from the School Board. We will provide a regular update via the school newsletter on some of the work being done.
The board is made up of members of the school community elected by parents to represent their families' interests and to act on their behalf. Boards are elected for a three-year term in an 18-month cycle, retaining half the Board each election. The school website has a page outlining the Board members and portfolios, which is kept up to date with roles and portfolios.
