Cottonwood Creek Cougar Chronicle
August 29, 2020
Controlled Dismissal
- Any time you are on school grounds please remember the 3 Ws: Wear your mask, Wash your hands, and Watch your distance.
- Please leave sidewalks clear for staff and students. We request you wait for your children in the grassy areas around our building and yield to classroom teachers moving their students around the building to the front where we have grade level cohort waiting areas. We also recommend designating a meeting location, where your children can walk to meet you. When selecting a meeting location, please make sure it is away from the exits, blacktops, and sidewalks surrounding the building
- Kindergarten Families: Your teachers will bring students out to the designated spot for your classroom and wait for a couple minute before escorting any remaining students around to the front of the building for pick-up. If you meet your child at your classrooms designated spot, we ask that you use the service drive to exit the school grounds.
- Teachers are responsible for getting all students out of the building safely. Our teachers are committed to working collaboratively with you, but we kindly ask that if you need to have a conversation with the teacher that you call or email them.
- Students who walk home may not linger outside of the building or stay to play on the playground. We also ask that once you have met your children that you exit the school grounds promptly.
- If your child is meeting a sibling, the older sibling will exit their assigned door, and walk around the building to the younger siblings grade level cohort out front and follow teacher direction.
- Please remember to walk all bikes, scooters etc. when on school grounds.
- If you don’t see your child outside their grade level exit door and it’s past their dismissal time, go to the front of the building/grade level cohort location.
- Please remember all animals must remain off school grounds between 7:40am-3:00pm.
- If your regular dismissal/pick up plan changes, be sure to notify your child's teacher or call the front office 720-554-3200.
Starting Monday, August 31st, we will dismiss as follows:
At 2:38pm, ALL Kids Club and Bus Riders will be dismissed.
- Kids Club: Students will meet their leaders at their grade level assigned door, where they will be escorted to Kids Club by a staff member.
- Bus Riders: Students will meet a Cougar Staff member at the exit of their assigned doors and report to the front of the building, where they will wait in a grade level cohort for bus riders.
At 2:45pm, the bell will ring and 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, and 5th Grade Students will be dismissed.
- Students will be escorted by their teacher and exit the building through their assigned doors. Students may meet at a designated meeting spot or begin to walk home. Remaining students will be escorted around to the front of the building to wait at the grade level cohort out front near the parent pick up lane.
Do I need to stay home?
Please leave your child's first and last name and the reason for their absence. If you child is not feeling well, please describe in detail the symptoms they are experiencing. For example, do they have a fever? Do they have shortness of breath, cough, runny nose, upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea?
Thank you for your partnership as we work to keep our students and staff healthy.
Am I ready to go back to school?

Wear your Mask
We will require masks for all students and staff regardless of state mandates. Research and science show that wearing a mask is critical to slowing the spread of the virus, especially in indoor spaces. When students walk to and from lunch and recess they are required to wear a mask. Masks may be removed when eating lunch and/or snack. At recess, students have the option to take a mask break.
Students who make the conscious choice to not wear a mask will:
- Receive information regarding the requirement
- Receive an official warning
- Be transferred to 100% online
Staff who make the conscious choice to not wear a mask will:
- Receive information regarding the requirement
- Receive an official warning
- Be placed on unpaid leave

Maddie Lefebvre, Mild/Moderate Teacher
My name is Maddie Lefebvre or Ms. L, and I am very honored and excited to be the new Mild/Moderate Special Education Teacher for this school year! I recently graduated from Auburn University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Special Education. I am originally from Southern California, but recently moved to Colorado because I have always had a love for the outdoors and this beautiful state. Some of my favorite activities include hiking, camping, skiing, and dancing! I am super passionate about and dedicated to teaching. This will be my first year teaching, and I am extremely grateful to be able to start at such an amazing school. I can’t wait to meet and teach the amazing students here at Cottonwood. Go Cougars!
Marie Toole, Occupational Therapist
Hello my name is Marie Toole and I am the Occupational Therapist for this year at Cottonwood Creek. I took a year off and worked part time last year just at High Plains. With the restructuring this year with online learners I was reassigned to your building! I bring 28 years of school OT experience as well as 7 years in the hospital setting in New Hampshire to Cottonwood. My husband and I moved here 4 years ago to "retire" and he is doing a great job of that! I am working my way there! We had our first granddaughter in May and I watch her one day per week. It is the BEST job ever! I am excited to be back amongst my Cottonwood family and looking forward to reconnecting with all of you!
