5th Grade Return of the Wolves
Students in 5th grade reviewed important vocabulary from their inSpire Science unit on Animal Functions and Structures. They practiced their knowledge using Flippety flashcards and matching terms. We read and discussed the Food Web of animals and what can happen when an animal from the top of the food chain is removed. The 5th graders read about the wolves being removed from Yellowstone in the '80s and then reintroduced back to Yellowstone in 1995 after scientists realized their importance. The students then did a whole class simulation using various types of pasta to represent grass, mice, snakes, and hawks. They got to visualize and see how each animal and plants are crucial to the balance of nature. The students were engaged and motivated conducting our simulation. The class completed inferential questions in a Google Form format to check for understanding.
4th Graders - Moon Phases Drawings
The students in 4th grade created Drawings in their Google Docs inserting shapes and by making modifications to them in order to create the 8 moon phases: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Crescent, 3rd Quarter, Waning Gibbous. It was especially motivating with our March Super Moon the Worm Moon. Students learned to create text boxes, add color to shapes, and manipulate the anchor points around their Drawings.
3rd Grade Animal Research
Students in 3rd grade are using www.kiddle.com to research an animal of their choice. They are using the "copy" & "paste" with their mouse and practice with their shortcut keys 'command c' to copy and 'command v' to paste. They are adding an image and the cited source as well as the resource for their facts.
They are also completing their Flippety flashcards and matching for review of important vocabulary found in their inSpire Science unit for Animal Functions and Structure.
2nd Grade - Internet Safety
Computer Control Center
Ethernet cables making our internet possible
Internet access
1st Graders Animal Structures and Functions
The 1st graders have been listening to Sandra Markle and Howard McWilliam What Would You Do If You Had Animal .... Ears, Teeth, Eyes, Nose, Feet, Hair? stories. These stories follow enrich the inSpire Science unit on Animal Structures and Functions. We have learned about African Elephant ears, chameleon eyes, dragonfly eyes, crocodile teeth, tapir noses, star mouthed mole nose, jack rabbit ears, etc. The students have used the www.abcya.com first grade Story Maker to create their informative pages to take home.
The students are reviewing mouse skills, typing letters and words, and printing their work.
They love showing off their printing skills.
Donations
While completing your Spring Cleaning, if you come across small prize toys from birthday parties, McDonald Happy Meals, small craft kits etc. the Science/Technology class will take them off your hands. Our students have been working hard to practice their words per minute and accuracy scores in their Typing. When students read the end of the year benchmark, they have been visiting the Sci/Tech prize box. It has been an amazing motivational tool!
