From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Thank you to the Band Council, especially our Band President Mitchell Reid, for organizing a fun and successful Band Block Party on Saturday! It was great to celebrate the successes of the school year to date, and spend time playing games and hanging out with their peers. See below for some pictures from the event.
Congratulations to the middel school bands in the WPHS feeder pattern on outstanding performances this past weekend at Middle School Concert MPA, hosted at Dr. Phillips High School. The Audubon Park School Symphonic Band - director Bryan Munera, Glenridge Middle School Symphonic Band - directors Brian Sullivan and James Brannock, and Maitland Middle School Wind Ensemble - director Eric Mendez, all gave wonderful, musical performances. Mr. Clemente was also able to hear the Howard Middle School Wind Ensemble - director Damon Willie - which has a number of 8th graders coming to WPHS next year, also give an outstanding performance. We're looking forward to those students being with us in the Winter Park Band this coming school year!
Audition requirements and materials for the 2020-2021 Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I have been released and are posted on the Band website. Students who are interested in audition for either or both ensembles are encouraged to download and read all materials carefully. No better time to start preparing than now, and Mr. Smith and I are more than happy to listen to any student and help with their preparation for the audition(s).
As we approach Spring Break, now is a great time to have any lingering personal instrument issues looked at by a professional repair technician. A few wonderful options to consider are Underwood Music, the Band Room, and the Music Shack. These shops make quality repairs and offer their services at fair prices. When you take your instrument into the shop, it is always a best practice to ask if the shop will allow you to use a loaner instrument while yours is in for repair. This way, you do not lose valuable practice time over the Spring Break holiday. All instruments and music folders will be going home with the students on Thursday, so that would be an ideal day to drop of the instrument to a repair shop.
Let's have a fun week, only four more school days until Spring Break!

Looking forward to after spring break, please take a look at the Charms calendar. Volunteer needs have been or will be added for the following events:
4/8/20-Music for All (Wind Symphony only-Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts)-chaperones needed approximately 7:15am-1pm
4/17/20-Lakeside Jazz Festival (involves all jazz bands), 3 chaperones are needed approximately 6:45am or so (see itinerary when it is posted) until late afternoon. Parents, etc. are welcome to come even if they do not ride the bus, and tents/chairs are helpful (it is an all day outside event)
4/4/20-Mattress sale fundraiser (student sign holders, mattress costume wearer, parent “supervisors” will all be needed, in shifts, so stay tuned for that information). Students/parents do not staff the sale.
The band banquet is coming on May 8, 2020. Please stay tuned for details regarding this fun event! Help will be needed with decorations, etc., so if you are creative and interested in helping with this event, which celebrates a wonderful band year, please contact me at njstorch@yahoo.com.
Band registration, mini band camp, freshman ice breakers, and many other events are on the calendar. If you are new this year to band and have questions about any of these events, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Clemente, Mr. Smith, our new parent liaison, Beth Visconti at Bethvisconti407@gmail.com, or me.
