News About Your K-5 Student
The importance of sight words
A list of sight words separated by grade level, flash cards and sight word games are found at http://www.sightwords.com/sight-words/dolch/ . Take a few minutes to quiz your child on what sight words he/she may know and what they need to work on. Then take a few words your student may struggle with at a time to focus on until your student knows it fluently.
Please click on the links below to find flash cards, teaching strategies, and sight word games.

Celebrating!
In the hectic pace of school, family activities, and life in general, it is easy to forget to celebrate the many great things happening at our school! I would like to add a K5 Celebration Corner to our newsletter.
If you have something you would like to celebrate, please send it to Mrs. Chadez achadez@k12.com and she will be sure to add it to the newsletter. These can be a “shout out” to your learning coach, to your student, to your teacher, or to another member of the IDVA team who has helped you. Receiving an appreciation can really make someone’s day. Let’s focus on brightening the days of others by sending in celebrations when you have them!
Progress expectations
Open to students kindergarten through sixth grade
The Idaho State Department of Education is now accepting Holiday Card Contest submissions, Superintendent Sherri Ybarra has announced. The contest is open to all public school students in grades K-6. Last year's winner is at right.
One drawing will be selected to be published on the State Department of Education’s website and used as the Department’s holiday greeting card. The Department also awards grade-level winners and display the selections on the department’s Holiday Card Contest webpage. The student who submits artwork and is selected as the overall winner, will receive cards for his or her own use.
Please submit all Holiday Card Contest artwork to Kallie Whitworth at kwhitworth@sde.idaho.gov.
Past grade level and overall winners of the Holiday Card Contest may be viewed at http://www.sde.idaho.gov/topics/card-contest/index.html.
Questions regarding the Holiday Card Contest may be directed to Kallie Whitworth at 208.332.6847.
