PALs Pre-K
PALS-PreK is an assessment tool of young children’s literacy development. Results are used to
determine individual children’s learning goals and to plan classroom instruction.
To best support their students, teachers need to understand what aspects of literacy are well
developed and what aspects of literacy need more instructional focus. It is normal for some
children to experience difficulty with some parts of the test and may not get all items correct.
This information will help the teacher in planning instruction.
For this reason, parents or older siblings should not provide hints or guidance to children during the PALS assessment. However, some children may need help with the virtual testing
environment.
DURING TESTING
It is important you do not help with or provide answers during testing. Within the different
tasks, there are ways to you can help with the virtual testing environment. See the attached
table for specific suggestions.
AFTER TESTING
The teacher will not be able to share the results immediately after the test. However, it is
important that you do receive information about the PALS testing results and that you are able
to discuss these results with the teacher. These will be discussed at parent conferences or at a later date arranged with your child's teacher.

Learning Clarification for JTP Students
Should we need to make adjustments to the in person learning, those students will receive their instruction virtually, as we began the year, with their current teacher. We hope to avoid this, so please practice your great family mitigation practices!
