RILINK Newsletter

October 2022

As the season changes so does our focus - from getting ready and starting the school year to expanding and developing our programs and resources. Please see below for information and opportunities.

Patron Updates for Destiny

Dorothy is working to resolve any issues with student and teacher updates for Destiny. Follett is working to correct issues with its sftp server, and will let us know when this has been resolved. In the meantime, please let Dorothy know/remind her regarding any other issues with updates.

Interlibrary Loan Updates

As of last Friday, sixty RILINK libraries had completed LORI Certification. If you have submitted your application and do not see your library listed on the OLIS website it may be that applications submitted last week are still being checked. If you have questions please contact Chaichin Chen, Resource Sharing Coordinator, at OLIS.

We are working with Follett on a new & improved version of the CDL application that was launched this past spring. They have promised it will be rolled out with the next Destiny Release scheduled for December. The product they have demonstrated looks much more like what was used for cross district loans before moving to Follett Hosted in 2021.

Professional Learning

We believe our members have some of the best ideas to share! Sheri Amsel from Exploring Nature has offered to do a session for RILINK librarians and teachers. We are looking for a librarian who has used Exploring Nature to partner with Sheri to develop a great presentation. Let us know if you are interested in planning with Sheri/presenting ways that you have used this K-12 resource.

There are a several options for professional learning through RILINK. Take a look at the Professional Learning page on the RILINK website to schedule a session, find links to webinars and training sessions on a variety of topics, or to view a previously recorded session from RILINK summer conferences and programs.

October 20 is a RIDE scheduled PD day. If you have suggestions for a session you would like to see offered on that day please email Jackie by October 11. Our Infobase partners have also offered to present on any of their available products.

LibGuide Update

The cleanup of RILINK Schools is almost complete. Users whose guides were scheduled for deletion were notified multiple times. Unused Assets will be removed from the system during October. The next RILINK Schools newsletter with tips on maintaining sites will come out in late October.

Please use the RILINK Help Request form going forward to submit any questions/requests about LibGuides or LibWizard.

Patron Records for Librarians

The patron record that should be used by the LMS has a Patron Type - Faculty and an Access Level - Administrator. The Administrator access patron record is the one that allows you to use all of the features of Destiny Library Manager.

If you work in a school or district that sends an update file for teachers you will have two patron records. All teachers, including the LMS, added this way have a Patron Type - Faculty and the Access Level - Teacher. Do not delete/edit this patron record; it will reappear the next time the teacher update file is run. This patron record typically uses your District ID number as the barcode and often includes your district email address.
