Mrs Fitzsimmons - Week of October 14, 2016

Math 1

This week students have been working really hard with functions this week. We will continue with functions next week involving arithmetic sequences and relating graphs to events and story problems. We plan to have our last unit test on Friday. Students will have a review sheet for homework on Thursday night to prepare for the assessment. We completed our Tile Project this week and handed it in on Friday. Grades should be in the gradebook early next week. Next week we will also review our eighth grade concepts learned this quarter to prepare for our end of quarter assessment on Monday, Oct 24. Math homework is assigned every night except test days. Please remind your child to complete this each night as this practice is crucial to success. Additionally every child has weekly IXL goals to help with the week's learning. These are assigned Monday as a warmup and due Friday.

Pre-Algebra (Math 8)

Students finished their third unit this week. We worked with operations in scientific notation and scatterplots. Thank you parents for sending in pumpkins. I am happy to say we have enough to complete our pumpkin activity next week. We plan to collect data from our pumpkins on Monday and graph scatterplots next Tuesday. Then we will begin our next unit with simplifying algebraic expressions. We will work with combining like terms and distributive property. Additionally, we will review our first quarter concepts next week to prepare for our math end of quarter on Monday, Oct 24. We completed our Tile Project this week and handed it in on Friday. Grades should be in the gradebook early next week.
