Principal's Message
Good evening Barbieri Families,
I hope you are all enjoying the weekend. I want to request your support to ensure safety for staff and students during morning drop off/arrivals. I have emailed about this before and unfortunately it has worsened due to bus delays. I am not able to control the delays that occur due to the shortage of drivers, neither can any of our families, but you can control the time you arrive. PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY FOR DROP OFF. Contractually, ALL STAFF are on duty starting at 8:50AM. We CAN'T UNLOAD CARS EARLIER AS THERE IS NOBODY AVAILABLE TO SUPERVISE. When cars begin to line up early this causes major traffic delays on Dudley Road and our own staff, who are trying to get into the school parking lot, can't enter and can't be on duty supervising students because they are in the traffic and unable to enter.
Students should ONLY UNLOAD IN THE TWO LANES IN THE PARKING LOT. DO NOT UNLOAD STUDENTS ON DUDLEY ROAD. There is no supervision on Dudley Road. This is extremely dangerous.
Lastly, all staff go inside to support the start of the day by 9:05AM. Duty time is 8:50AM-9:05AM. If you arrive after 9:05AM PLEASE PARK YOUR CAR AND WALK YOUR CHILD TO DOOR 1. ASSIST YOUR CHILD WITH CROSSING THE TWO PARKING LOTS. Students should NOT CROSS ALONE.
At Barbieri School we have disability parking available to families who have disability plates/eligibility. If you do not have disability eligibility please refrain from using these spots. Our school houses the multi-disabilities program and at times families have not been able to access these spaces because others have parked incorrectly in them. Please be mindful.
I truly appreciate all of us working together to ensure a safe and efficient arrival each morning. Student and staff safety is my number 1 priority every single day.!
Con mucho aprecio,
Maria
Bienvenida a Jennifer 'Jen' Donato!!!
I want to virtually introduce Jennifer Donato 'Jen' who will be joining the ESL Team as .5 ESL Teacher and .5 ESL Coach. Our hope was that she would work alongside Elissa but as we all know Baby Washburn had his own plans in mind.
Jen is thrilled to be joining us and will onboard and focus her time on observing and supporting ACCESS testing season 2023, meeting with DME and Barbieri Admin, and spending time with our Academic Support team all to get acquainted and support us! Jen joins us with experience as a Spanish World Language Teacher and ESL Teacher. She has been teaching for 18 years.

ACCESS 2023 Testing
The window for ACCESS testing will open on Thursday, Jan 5th and will close on Friday, Feb. 10. 2023. ACCESS stands for "Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners." It's an assessment that assesses social and academic English language development in the domains of Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
Our ESL teachers will be administering the assessment. We thank you all in advance for recognizing the tremendous effort that goes into assessing our students and your collaboration and support in respect to ELD sessions.
Specialists, classroom teachers, please note that due to spacing concerns we will need to use specials classrooms on some days and ask that you instead visit your scheduled homeroom to teach your lesson in that specific homeroom. We thank you for your understanding and also thank our classroom teachers as we realize that this can take away your planning space on some days. THANK YOU all in advance for your flexibility. The schedule will be shared before we leave for the winter break so everyone can plan accordingly!
Thank you to the entire ESL team, Admin team, Evanggelia and Elissa as we prepare to tackle this year's testing!
Character Trait of the Month is KINDNESS
5th Grade Hawk Helpers 🦅💙
A Hawk Helper is a 5th grade student who demonstrates leadership, respect and kindness to students within their classroom and school. Hawk Helpers will be meeting with Mrs. Rubin, SEB coach, weekly during lunch to plan ways to support our entire school community. These opportunities may include but are not limited to supporting school-wide expectations, assisting in planning and executing Community Meetings, promoting the character trait of the month and spirit days, giving tours to visitors and creating school-wide activities to build community and bring joy to Barbieri! Go Hawks!!!
Some of Sra. Lee's Students showed KINDESS by caring for our playground!
