Box Tops Deadline
It’s Box Top submission time! Please don’t let those Box Tops expire! We would appreciate any and all that you have by Friday, Feb. 23 just in time for our second submission on March 1. Thank you!
Don't forget to label the bags, envelopes and/or Box Top submission sheets with your child's name and teacher's name, as we're keeping track of the number of Box Tops submitted by each class, and the winning class will receive a special prize toward the end of the school year.

Come one, come all! Lowell Jamboree 2018
Friday, March 2, 2018 * 5:00pm to 8:00pm
Jamboree is a carnival-themed fun fair for the whole family and is one of the most popular school events of the year. Come and join us for games, prizes, food, music, and friends! This year will again feature all of your favorite games, an artists’ studio, and a photo booth! We’re also bringing back the DJ dance room, the Sweet Treats Walk, and face painting, amongst other favorites.
Here is how you can help NOW to make this night a success:
Raffle
Classroom Raffle Baskets and Teacher Time Baskets are currently being assembled. Your child’s teacher has sent home information on their class basket theme. Please consider donating an item to include in your child’s class basket. We are also in need of large baskets to present the items. Questions? Contact Heather Amwoza at bhamwoza@comcast.net.
Prizes
A box has been placed in the office to collect any gently-used knick-knacks you might be willing to donate. Bouncy balls, Happy Meal toys, jelly bracelets, books, matchbox cars, stickers, pencils, party favors, last year’s Jamboree prizes ☺--any little new or gently-used toys that you don’t mind parting with will be accepted throughout the month of February. These items will be re-distributed as prizes, saving Lowell money and saving the earth at the same time. Questions? Contact Kristen Moore at kristenmoore107@gmail.com.
Candy Grams
Candy Grams is currently accepting donations in the school office of any full-size candy or snack items including: chocolate bars, packages of gum, Skittles, Airheads, granola bars, individual Goldfish packages, Rice Krispie Treats, etc. Questions? Contact Beth Madiol at bethmadiol@aol.com.
More information, including ticket order forms and volunteer sign-up forms, will be coming home by the end of next week, so be on the lookout. This event could not succeed without the help of the whole school community—thanks for all that you do for Lowell School!
See you at Jamboree!
Six Flags & Kane County Cougars Reading Programs
The reading goals for the Six Flags Read to Succeed Reading Program and the Kane County Cougars Reading Club program are being combined this year! Students who choose to participate in these optional reading programs must read a total of 6 hours between December 18, 2017 - February 16, 2018. When the 6 hours of reading are completed, a student must fill out an information sheet. Classroom teachers will be sending an information sheet home with each student. Each student may select to have one or both tickets if they complete the reading goal. Forms are due to each child’s teacher no later than February 16, 2018.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Chiappini (melissa.chiappini@cusd200.org) or Mrs. McDonald (annmarie.mcdonald@cusd200.org). Happy reading!!
Health Office Highlights
Flu Season
It’s in the news daily...Influenza activity is widespread throughout the country. Unfortunately this year’s flu vaccine has not been as effective as in past years. This year young children and the elderly seem to experience more intense symptoms.
If your child has flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, cough, sore throat, muscle or body aches, chills, headache and/or fatigue) consult your doctor. Students should remain home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication.
Please call the attendance line (630-682-2086) to notify the school when your child is staying home. When reporting an absence, please indicate the reason for the absence. If due to illness or a communicable disease, please report symptoms including whether your child has a fever, cough, or sore throat or report the diagnosis.
If you are not sure whether to send your child to school, you may call the school nurse for consultation. If you’re still in doubt, call or visit your physician.
Here are ways to protect your health and your family’s health:
Washing our hands frequently. It is an ideal time to review with your child the importance of handwashing, proper handwashing and when to wash their hands. Keeping hands away from your face also reduces the chance of illness.
Drinking plenty of fluids, especially water.
Getting an adequate amount of sleep.
Eating the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables, which are high in vitamins.
Covering your mouth when coughing with either a disposable tissue or your sleeve.
Remember stress and fatigue can affect your body’s ability to fight infections.
If someone is ill in your house, remember to wipe down surfaces that they may have contacted. Flu germs can live on surfaces for up to 24 hours.
Wellness Messages
Once a week during morning announcements the students hear a wellness message. These messages can be found in the school “Health Services” site, under Wellness Wrap. The tidbits range from information on staying healthy to suggestions for activities and ways to wake up your body. In the Health Services tab you will also find websites on health related topics, school forms and health requirements for attendance. Take some time to explore.
Midyear Reminders
As the second half of the school year gets underway, here are a few helpful reminders from the Health Office staff:
If there has been a change in your child’s health status, please call the Health Office to update the information.
Remember to call the Attendance Line (630-682-2086) to report your child’s absence and the reason for the absence. Illnesses are tracked for any patterns within the school.
Some student medications kept in the Health Office expire (i.e. inhalers, Epipens). We try to remind parents of upcoming expirations, but it is also important to receive the replacements as soon as possible.
We thank you for not double parking on Illinois, in the car line, and in the surrounding neighborhood during arrival and dismissal to keep the children safe. Car riders should remain indoors until they are called; they should not be on the playground. We also thank all families for crossing Illinois Street at the corner. Safety for the children is our top priority!
Save the Date: The annual Lowell 5K will be on Saturday, April 28, 2018!
