PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Yesterday we got the welcome news that from 11:59 pm tonight we can operate at Alert Level 2. This is a huge relief to many I'm sure. Wednesday will be a day for preparing our school site for Level 2. School will be open for students who have attended during Level 3. There will be no "Google Meets" from teachers tomorrow as they will be setting up their rooms for Thursday. We look forward to seeing all our staff and students on site on Thursday. School has certainly been a very different place for those of us on site over the past week. I would like to thank our staff and community for their hard work, resilience and support over this challenging time.
The main focus for us for the first few days back will be rebuilding relationships, routines and confidence. There may be some students feeling anxious around returning to school and it will be vital that our environment is positive and welcoming. For us, all the required safety precautions for Alert Level 2 will be in place which include following all the recommendations from the public health experts. This means we will regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, encourage everyone to frequently wash their hands and cough and sneeze into their elbow.
While physical distancing is not a requirement in schools, we will be doing our best to keep students from congregating in very large numbers and keeping spaces well-ventilated.
Face coverings are not required to be worn in school. The Director General of Health has recommended that children 12 years+ wear a face covering at school – just as older children are required to wear face coverings in some other places. The decision to wear a face covering is up to you and your whānau, whatever your decision it will be respected.
At Alert Level 2, parents are encouraged to drop and run at the school gate. Whilst this is the ideal scenario, we recognise that for some students the first day could be coupled with a few anxieties. You do what you think is right for your child. If you do enter the school grounds the requirement under Level 2 is that you either scan in on the school app or QR code or sign the Contact Tracing register at the entrance to the classroom if you do not have access to the relevant technology. There are plenty of QR code posters around the school. Whilst we are still trying to get further clarification on this, at this stage parents entering office spaces or classrooms are encouraged to wear masks. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me if there is something you need assistance with.
As you can see in the photo opposite, the new admin space is taking shape. The roof is now on and the builders are awaiting on gib to start the interior. The availability of materials is going to be the challenge moving forward.
A parent recently alerted me to a very well made and informative NZ made documentary about Our Kids Online: Porn, Predators & How To Keep Them Safe. It does cost $4.99, but the information this parent got was in their words, "priceless"

As you will be aware from previous correspondence, Raewyn Field leaves at the end of this term to take up the Assistant Principal role at Arthur Miller School. I can now confirm that Mrs Sue Dunn (Monday -Thursday) and Mrs Erica Cranswick (Friday) will be the teachers in Room 12 during Term 4.
It's great to be back! Have a fun week everyone.
Ngā mihi

Peak Trail Blazer Update
Peak Trail Blazer Update
We have a T-Shirt Slogan Winner and we are super excited about announcing and congratulating our awesome winner this Friday when we are back at school. Watch this space for news of our winner!
The winning slogan will be printed on the front of 500 t-shirts which are worn as part of the school uniform in term 4 only and also by the Peak Trail Blazer competitors.
We will only be doing one t-shirt order this year and t-shirt orders will need to be in by the last week of term 3, Wednesday 29th September. If you would like to order a t-shirt for your child to wear next term, you can purchase it online at https://eventplus.net/PTB21
The Tainui Trail Course is selling out fast as always. We have to cap the numbers on this trail to comply with the council, so make sure you get your families entries in.
The Peak Trail Blazer is being held this year on the 31st of October, which is Halloween so the organising team has a lot of fun planned for the children. If anyone would like to help or support the Peak Trail Blazer in any way please contact Catherine Wedd on 0212886770 or email peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz
